Time Flies, Geese Fly, Fly, Fly

May 7th, 2007

Art above, "Geese Flying Over", is 8"x10" with collage, acrylic and pencil. I might still work on this a bit, but here it is for now.

Time seems to be moving much faster than I am these days. I'm just barely keeping up with myself. Thursday, I met with a good friend who is far more business minded than I and we made plans to check in with eachother regularly regarding our our personal business goals. I'm thrilled to have her support in this way. We sat down at first to chat about my business ideas and goals and so I could pick her brain about business ideas. We originally made plans to do this way back in the beginning of Finding Water when it was suggested as an exercise and I'd been thinking about it anyways, but you know, time flies...so, we finally got a chance to sit down and talk about this for a few hours and I got to hear about some of the exciting business ideas she has brewing. One thing I love about this friend, is that she thinks big, real big, way bigger than I would naturally. She was talking about Christmas cards and how I could get them printed and she asked if I knew how I would do this. I said oh, sure, I could just print them on my printer because I have a really nice one. And she says, well, I mean, at the company I used to work for, we'd order 3,000 invitations at a time, so you'd probably need to work with a printer for that. Sounds silly, but I wasn't thinking in that way at all. I was thinking I could print out 50 cards and bring them around to little shops to sell. And of course, I could do that, but why not go big? The fiansor thinks big also. I need to broaden my idea of what's possible.

The past few days have been busy, busy. Friday, I met with my mom for lunch and she tried on dresses for my wedding. Then the fiansor and I attended a surprise birthday party. Saturday we took a rediculously long walk (we always get a bit too ambitious on the way out, but this time we went too far and we were dragging ourselves home.) And then went to a late night screening of Spiderman 3 at the fancy theater (leather seats, unlimited popcorn and soda, 21+). Sunday, as soon as I got up, I was gathering my things to head out to an Open Studios event in Somerville. I usually ask a friend along, but I decided to go alone this time to make it my artist's date and so I could really just do as I pleased. I barely scratched the surface of all the art to be seen at this event, but I saw a lot of great art, met some really cool artists, collected business cards and postcards (great for ideas), signed up on artist's mailing lists, and felt so inspired. I also felt so exhausted after all that walking and talking and socializing. This was definitely the most socially packed week I've had in awhile.

The website is coming along. I had to do some major changes to the design (arg) and tomorrow I'll be sending off some screen shots to someone who will help me with the coding to get me started. I still have some big decisions to make in regards to how I want to do printing. I have some short term solutions and some of it will be trial and error, but I get easily overwhelmed by all the possibilities and options. I need to just keep taking the next right step.

And then there's Finding Water which is ending this week and I can hardly believe it. Time...yeah, I've said that already...So, I wanted to post my answers to the divining rod from last week (p243):
-Have you reorganized your living space? Yes a little bit. I rearranged my studio a bit to make it work better for me. I still have so much to reorganize.
-Have you thrown anything away? Yes, definitely threw a lot out. Again, I have so much more to go.
-Has your sense of color shifted? Yes, I've been drawn to oranges, a new one for me.
-Has your relationship to music shifted? Not that I'm aware of.
-Do you find yourself being more plainspoken? Yes, actually, I do! It's kind of funny now that I think of it. I've been more willing to say what I mean instead of dancing around it.
-Have there been any shifts in your intimate relationship? No.
-Have you experienced any difference in your energy? No, it fluctuates a lot, but that's pretty normal for me .
-Have you experienced any weight gain or loss? Maybe a little gain? Not sure.
-Have you relinquished or seriously thought about relinquishing any other "bad" habit? Yes, I've seriously considered cutting coca-cola out of my life. For now, I'm just cutting back.
-Are you conscious of having more choices in your daily life? Interesting question and yes, I definitely am. I feel more relaxed about all the daily choices as well.
-Has your relationship to a Higher Power altered? Yes.
-Are you more comfortable with your spirituality? Yes, I feel more connected.
-Is it more a fact of your everyday life? Yes, certainly.

I've felt more drawn to nature and I've been more willing to make choices that will help to soothe me. I'll write more about the final chapter in the FW blog soon.

The business goals networking is a great idea. I know it will help tremendously!

Hey Leah! It was fun to read your answers for that Divining Rod. I answered them in my head, but I think I would get a lot more out of my progess if I sat down and answered them like you have. Thank you for inspiring me to take a little time tonight to do just that.

I love ya and I am wishing you MUCHO luck with thinking BIG!! :)

I am a few days behind in starting our last chapter. Thank you for inspiring me here.

sounds like you have been a busy inspired girl! i am so glad you are taking steps to create your business…so exciting! so funny, but i was st somerville open studios too on sunday. i visited spark craft studios and magpie indie artist shop while i was around there too. the city energy is always so inspiring. some days i miss that. my hubby and i used to live in that neighborhood, before suburban family life! ahhh, how time flies indeed :) xo, mindy

p.s. i had so much fun the other day journeying through your sidebar links – you really have some great ones i’ve never visited! thanks.

I’m tempted to say “Don’t touch it! It’s done” about the piece, but I won’t advise, I’ll just say “Love it!” You inspire me! I want to do some large paintings for my studio, and may have to do one of them in a collage style!

That’s wonderful that you have so many good changes and growth in your life! I know how you feel about limited thinking. . . I tend to think smaller, too. My husband thinks big, so that’s a good influence on me.

I am reading your blog and thinking of you, even if I’m quiet. (Mine blog is down momentarily, but I’m enjoying the break.)
Keep up the great work!

I love that you’ve been drawn to more orange-y colors. They’re my favorites. Your art is really amazing and I love coming here to see all of your creations.
Good luck with your business venture! Change is good and whatever road you end up taking, I hope it’s a good one.
12 weeks gone already? Time really does fly.

Hi!
I love this image. It really speaks to me.

Sean’s cousin has a printing business in Newton. Mike is a really nice guy. I think his prices are fair and the quality is good. I didn’t use him for my bulk postcards because he couldn’t beat the price I found on the internet at USA postcards. For something like everyday cards and invitations I think a local printer is best.

Thinking big – I’ve just started. And it’s so much a head concept that I am amazed. It’s how I present myself to me. And it makes more difference than I care to think about – mostly because I see that thinking small has definitely had its drawbacks. But that’s then and this is now and hooray for your doing this with a friend (having a friend to do it with). And check-ins! Wow. I’m impressed and a bit jealous. Good for both of you.

I wish I could say something original because I seem to love all of your work, each time I think oh, it’s this one. But really, this time it’s this one. I love the colors so much.
I can’t believe it’s the last week of FW as well – I like your answers to this particular divining rod. I’ve got mine all queued up for a post this week. I guess I’m trying to linger a little with the last of this project.

It is great that the fiansor and your friend are big thinkers. It often amazes me how others see so much in me. It’s funny how things work. I look at your artwork, read your writing, and am truly amazed at your talent.
I guess maybe we should all view ourselves in the third person from time to time.

It’s so great to read about the wonderful things going on in your life. I’m excited to hear more about your dreaming bigger and wonder what gorgeousness you’ll create. I’m sure it will be awesome.

Great list, thanks for sharing it too. Hugs, E

Loving your list! Coca-cola for you…coffee for me….tomatoes-tomawtoes!
Thanking you for all your suppport & encouragement during the FW journey.
Can’t wait to read your thoughts on the last chapter.
