Dark and Romantic

August 8th, 2007

I've been making art, but not finding time to post it, which is frustrating. But I'm glad to be making it! This first piece, "Ulalume", was named for the poem by Edgar Allen Poe that I wrote lines from within the dress. I used a photo as the inspiration for the figure in this drawing and just playing with pencil which I haven't done in awhile. The poem is dark and romantic as is the drawing, I think. The drawing is 9"x12" on watercolor paper. I did this other piece below for Illustration Friday's theme, "Missing." It's another sort of dark and romantic piece. This time I did some transfers from photocopies of old photographs along with collaged paper, ribbon, and an old train token onto cradled wood board, 8"x8".

In other news, the Full Moon piece below is now up in the store. More art is on the way. And a problem with my finger that I'm hoping you can help me with. And a cute picture of a kitty from my personal cat army. :-)

love the collage – what’s your finger problem? you know i believe zee needles work wonders on most ailments. xo

Leah, I really like Ulalume—what a creative use of words in art! Thank you for posting these! I think you’re incredibly productive!

Leah,
Oh my…where do I begin? The “Ulalume” piece is OUTSTANDING! And to write the words of the poem in the dress — it’s a winning piece, very dramatic and moving. And the collage is so unique. I thas a wonderful nostalgia about it : ) The skeleton key…I like. :)

Both pieces are very captivating. Leah, but I really, really like the pencil drawing! There is something about the downward turn of her head that makes her seem so introspective and completely in her own moment. I love the use of the poetry on her dress as well.

beautiful, love it! i’m glad you’re using the book i sent you for some new art :) xoxo

I love the poem written in like that! The collage is terrific–I’ve been doing lots of digital lately, but this makes me want to get out the glue and scissors…

I really, really love this one. The way the words wrap around her, the way her pearls hang, it’s wonderful.

One of my favorite poems. I love how you incorperated the poem’s words into the texture and composition of the woman. I really like your collage too. You are one talented gal!
