Sketches and Art for a Snowy Day

February 9th, 2008

I've been feeling a little run down, but I'm here and I've got a build up of sketches and art that I've been keeping busy with in my quest for every day creativity! First a sweet little blue bird that I'd like to paint up or make into a bold graphic with ink.

And then here's a few pages of sketches from my trusty sketchbook.

And lastly, I mentioned this quote by Hafiz in an earlier post, and yesterday I brought it to life. It's 8"x10" with acrylic and ink on watercolor paper. I got so caught up in painting it, that I lost track of time and was running late when I headed up to the opening last night. I'll write more about the opening tomorrow. Hope your weekend has been wonderfully creative!

I have only just recently discovered Hafiz through another blog – amazing things in those sayings! Love the red house to go with. Hope your show is grand!

I love the elephant sketch! Girl Twin is helping me write…. so I guess she wants to say “hi” too!

What a beautiful quote and image, Leah. I’m going to think about that for awhile…
Wishing you a wonderful winter weekend~xo

It’s such a delight (and an inspiration) to see what’s in your sketchbook. =]
I hope the opening went well.

The less you speak, the more your house becomes one of silence and peace and comfort.

love how you’re keeping it real posting pages from your sketch book.
I should try that sometime.
I also like to sketch leaves very similar to what you are doing.
Hoping you have much success with your show.

Wonderful sketches! I especially love the elephant and the deep red houses.

LEAH…I would just love to ponder through your sketchbook when we hook up!! Your talent amazes me!!!

xoxoxox

Ps…may be a change of plans…I’ll keep you posted as soon as I know…..

xo,

Mmm. I love Hafiz. Can’t resist sharing this one … one of my favs:

“You are the Sun in drag. You are God hiding from yourself.

Remove all the ‘mine’ that is the veil. Why ever worry about anything?

Listen to what your friend Hafiz knows for certain:

The appearance of this world is a Magi’s brilliant trick, though its affairs are nothing into nothing.

You are a divine elephant with amnesia trying to live in an ant hole.

Sweetheart, O sweeteart you are God in Drag!”

(ain’t that delish!?)

boo hoo…i totally missed you friday night! still, I loved seeing your pieces in all their glory. it was such a fun festive atmosphere and all the art was really amazing. congrats on a fabulous show sweetie! rest up and stay cozy. xo

I love the bluebird and the elephant. The quote painting is also very beautiful. Your art makes me want to start doodling and sketching again!

Heya Leah. Love the bird sketch! I love my sketchbook too and never think to post it. Endearinglly Odd. I hope you turn the bird sketch into a great piece.

I swear, sometimes, I feel as if I live under a rock, LOL! Who is this “Haliz” and why haven’t I heard of him before? Something I’ll have to research. I just want to add that your use of his quotation, has fit my life to a “T” this past week. I LOVE the artwork and the red color fits perfectly with both the passion and the anger that I’ve recently felt.

Congratulations on your success at Nahcotta!

I also like Hafiz, and find his words inspirational.

A poet is someone
Who can pour light into a cup,
Then raise it to nourish
Your beautiful parched, holy mouth.

I am so behind on my blog reading with work and travel . . . and am catching up on yours . . . one of my favorites because you always focus on process, and are so thoughtful – so, not one I can just “skim” . . . this quote by Hafiz is lovely . . . I’m working on series about home right now, and one piece specific to a particular site came much more hopeful that I had originally thought – this quote seems somehow very appropriate.
