Art Every Day Month, November 23rd

November 23rd, 2008

Today is the 23rd day of Art Every Day Month. Only one week left! Can you believe it?

The box below is a widget that I provide each day as an optional place to share a direct link (blog post or flickr image) to that day's creation. If you don't have something to share today, don't worry about it! Share when you can. In the meantime, be sure to check out what other participants are creating! Check out the links from today's post, the previous day's posts and the links in the sidebar for instant inspiration. You can also see lots of great work in the AEDM flickr group. Feel free to share your work there too!

If you use the widget, please link to a specific blog post (or specific image if you're linking to a flickr page or other website) instead of your main blog page or website. If you want to share, but don't have a specific page to link to, feel free to use the comments section of this post to share what you're working on. If you're posting less than once a day, no problem! Simply use the latest one of these posts to share a link to your creation! For some, it's too much to keep up with posting every day, but don't let that get you down. Do it if you can and if you can't, just keep on creating, that's the most important part. If you get off track and miss a few days of creating, don't let that freeze you up either. Just pick up where you left off and keep moving forward. One foot in front of the other. You are making your life a more creative one with each step.

If you're new to Art Every Day Month, check out the before you use the link widget to share your creations.

Creativity is a mindset, an attitude. Regardless of how we feel - low or high or in between - creativity is always there.

Leah,

Thanks for the suggestion about the sun on a previous submission. I’d be interested to see what you think of how I finished it.

Your quotes are great.

After completing work for the Double Visions exhibition, I took a break from creating. I probably will be posting sporadically between now and the end of the challenge!

The lastest piece is a postcard that I made to submit for The 11th Annual Postcards From the Edge Benefit. Postcards From the Edge is a Visual AIDS benefit show and sale of original, postcard-sized works on paper by established and emerging artists. All proceeds support the work of Visual AIDS for AIDS advocacy and supports the work of HIV-positive artists while offering career support. You can read more about it on my blog post.

I felt good creating something to give back for such a worthy cause.

your quotes are very motivating

Creativity is always there, but some days I don’t feel like I am.

Today I start the cat and sun watercolor, and it’s a different sort of painting than I’ve done before in that medium… So I’m a little edgy about that – there are colors and effects I need which I have not created before in WC and the medium is pretty unforgiving. So I’ll be playing around first on some scraps. Gotta get started…

leah, your artwork for soul coaching is interesting, given the process…my daughter and I will be starting the book together and *I* am wondering if there is another soul coaching online group beginning in December?

everyone’s art looks provocative and beautiful! this has been an interesting journey … :)

if I didn’t have a commitment to AEM I wouldn’t have shown up to the blogworld today. This is good. It makes me push. Now I’m really honestly absolutely going to push myself down into the studio and glaze. REally.

23 days in… 7 more to go… What a collective adventure it has been. The quote for today has come at just the right time. It has made me think more about what creativity is to me. I totally agree with the quote that creativity is a mindset and always with us. The quote also makes me think about where did I first learn about creativity and how to I access it. My memory tells me that my mother is the most creative person I know. Based on study and practice as a musician and early childhood teacher, Mommy taught my brothers and I that creativity is imagination. She encouraged us to use our imaginations to create art, poetry, greeting cards, science projects, toys, and spaces that we could play in. Between the ages of 25 to 35, I learned that creativity is a emotional and spiritual healing balm for life’s ups and downs. During this ten year period I discovered that I could access my creativity by:

C – Centering and
R – Reconnecting spirit, heart, mind, body and breath to the
E – Energy of
A – Authenticity that
T – Travels with
I – Imagination and
V – Vision that comes from inside of
Y – Yourself

The manifestation of this process decorates the world with unique expression. It invites all people to tap into their own creative spirit in their speech, behavior, lifestyle, personal choices, physical appearance, home decor, art, writing, music, film, healing, health, sacred rituals, self-care practices, community involvement, and so much more. Hopefully, we all know and accept this invitation. Nowadays I am called to direct my service towards sharing what I have learned to help people reconnect with, appreciate, honor, and/or understand their creative spirit and expression.

It is hard to believe we only have a week left. I don’t want it to end! I have created so many things this month that I wouldn’t have without the AEDM challenge to motivate me. I still have a hard time sitting down to sketch “just because”, but apparently “because I am doing AEDM” is more than enough reason!

posted pics from the open house yesterday. I’ll probably doodle some tonight, but we’re watching the 24 movie.

Well since I started in late, like the 9th, I figured from the beginning I would go through the first week of December, so I got the full benefit of doing it for 30 days. So I’m only about halfway through!

My entry for today is more a concept piece, I suppose; a shared meditation through a little piece of art I did, but what people do with what I did is more the finished result.

I did another piece but it didn’t photograph well and I’ll have to see to that. So I may add another link tonight!

Really?! Just One more week to finish these cards?! Maybe I have to rethink the size of the project. Or extend the deadline…

I’ve fallen off the wagon a little ;-) But… I am being gentle with myself. Hopefully I’ll be more creative this coming week while embracing the reading deprivation week for the book, “The Artists Way.”

Adored the Rilke poem yesterday – it truly touched me. I made a little more progress on my doll project today, but still not finished. Maybe my goal will be to finish her by the 30th!
