Red’s Intuition

November 8th, 2008

Busy, busy day. Spent much of the day helping my sister move, came home to take our neighbor's dog for a walk and then crashed for a brief nap before doing a little painting. I decided to work on a painting that sat unfinished and was frustrating me. Honestly, I'm still not loving the result, but that's o.k. It was good to play with it some more. I'm calling it "Red's Intuition" and it's about 12"x6" on canvas. I had the idea for it ages ago when I was thinking about the signs and symbols that pop into our lives and give us those little nudges that come across as a gut feeling. I imagined what would have happened if in the story of "Little Red Riding Hood," the girl had seen the smoke curling from her grandmother's chimney taking the form of a wolf. I imagined she could have noticed this from a distance and prepared herself for what she was going to meet. I still like the idea of it, but maybe I need to play with it in a different format. And maybe it will grow on me more if I let it sit.

One of the things I enjoyed most about working on it was playing with the uttlerly luscious new tube of Phthalo Blue paint that got worked into the shadows and also over a layer of brown that I painted the sides of the canvas with. Yum. Such a gorgeous color.

Tomorrow's looking like a quiet day and I should be able to catch up with some emails and such. I've worked on my Soul Coaching assignment too, but I think I'll write about that tomorrow. I hope you're all having a beautifully creative weekend!

You may not be groovin’ on your painting, but I think it’s very cool. Look at it again through my eyes. It just works, and tells the idea behind it well.

What a stunning painting. You are really talented. Warm regards

Oooooooohhhhh! I love your picture so much I could hug it!
Funny how something that you are not totally happy with can speak to another one so strongly.

Sometimes the winds do speak to us, as shown in your wonderful painting Leah! Cheers :o )

Leah,
i have to say that i love this painting! the idea is fantastic, and i would love to see a this “new” version of Little Red Riding Hood made into a book. (something to think about!)
i noticed that one of my favorite books is on your bookshelf to the right of the painting…
…congrats on a successful art-filled month so far, it’s been fun reading about it!

I LOVE this painting. Maybe I’m a sucker for fairy tales and archetypes and intuition. Yep, I am, but I love it anyway.

I wonder what it is about it that doesn’t sit right with you?

I hope I don’t sound too nicey nice, I can’t help it tho, all of your art inspires me. no joke. i, too, am curious about what you don’t like… a little insight on how your wheels turn, so to speak… ~Sara

also… it was fun seeing slivers of your bookshelf… i want to know what you know ;-)

Wow Leah! An amazing piece of work!

So beautiful!! Love the warm, earthy colors in this one.

that wolf looks a little bit like Sukey…so maybe there’s something in your retelling of the story there, maybe it’s not a big bad wolf, but a big goofy dog with a teddy bear waiting for red at grandma’s?
