Creative Every Day Challenge Theme for October: Connect

September 26th, 2009

ced connect

The *totally optional* theme for the Creative Every Day Challenge in October will be Connect! I'm thinking of it in terms of exploring what finding connections in your art, making connections with community, connecting to yourself, to nature, etc..

I'll be posting about the theme throughout the month. You can use the posts here for jumping off points or interpret the theme in your own creative way. If you need some suggestions, here are a few ideas to get you started. You could:

  • *Join in and connect with others in online challenges like Illustration Friday.
  • *Explore connections in your art.
  • *Find ways to connect creatively with Nature, with your body, or with your home.
  • *Connect with others through a swap (aceo's, journals, books, etc...)
  • *Write about the way you connect with yourself and others.
  • *Try connecting with new people through media like Twitter or visit some of the CED participants (see the sidebar.)
  • *Leave art or fun messages in your neighborhood as a way to connect with your community .
  • *Create your own in-person, creative group meet-up or have an art picnic with friends.
  • *Take an online class to connect with like-minded souls.

How to use the CED themes:

If you're feeling creatively stuck or blocked at any point during the month, use the theme as a source of inspiration to get you moving.

Using the theme is entirely optional for CED participants. Use it if it inspires you, ignore it if it doesn't. I'll be sharing posts throughout the month around the theme (among other things) to get you thinking about how to incorporate it into your life. I'd love to hear how you use the theme in your creative world.

Feel free to focus on the theme in your creative activities for the entire month or as much as you'd like.

And have fun with it!

Creativity belongs to the artist in each of us. To create means to relate. The root meaning of the word art is "to fit together" and we all do this every day. ~Corita Kent

p.s. The art in this post is a cropped portion of my mixed-media painting, Ladders. The original of it sold, but you can purchase prints of it here.

Lovely artwork, Leah! It’s like a merge between reality and fantasy. It is haunting, yet inviting.

Also, fabulous theme! I am currently exploring more connections with my poetry! :)

Hi. I love your blog and would love to start participating in this. Thanks.

new to CED site (not to Leah’s art and lovely words, i adore you!) but i wish to connect with all of you ladies so i will keep exploring and reading more about this project and about you because i want to participate, too

This one sounds great, I have already begun connecting, through here and Jamie Ridler’s site. I have also signed up for some other courses like unravelling and Mondo Beyondo.
I think I will make a connect collage, I am in a collage phase.
Thanks for the inspiration

Connecting with what you are doing is inspiring me to move and paint and journal and do LIFE! A big thankyou!

This is such a gorgeous and moving piece of art.

Loving it! I’ve posted my CONNECTion on my blog! In the process of posting on Flicker!

I’m finally moved to join in! I love this month’s theme. No personal blog yet, but joined the CED Flickr group. Enjoy the month, everyone!

Connect. Connect … Ok – I’m going to try and get some positiveplanks up and running on the connect theme – and hang them in fun local places (like The Bell Pub in Pibrac!)

To whoever inspires you – I wish them a long and merry life! It’s great connecting with a high energy person like you…

Okay. You could say I am doing the connecting thing this month, this being the first time I have seen your site. I do a lot of e-mailing, and I like to call my friends, and make original cards, and sing and draw. I have been going through a lot of medical tests for the past five months, because a very fast growth was found in my right breast. I had a benign phylloid removed from my right breast. I was warned that if I didn’t have it removed in three years, it could be cancer.

I have been spending a lot of time with my sisters lately, as they have been taking me to exams and the surgery. The surgery was successful, obviously. It was an outpatient surgery, and I have been able to recover at home. I have the stitches removed on Wednesday.

I have received a great deal of support from this. Today I went to an outdoor vegetable market called The Green Market, a place where you can get local vegetables and fruit, sample homemade food, enjoy some live folk music and so on. It felt good to get out of the house.

I love this idea! I would love to join in on your Creative Every Day challenges AND the Art Every Day Month challenge!!!
