Pond Reflections

pond reflections

Oh, I'm just loving the energy around Art Every Day Month this year. I love it every year... the excitement, the support, the new connections with fellow creatives, the commitment to creativity, the beautiful things that are created and shared. It's just awesome!

A lot of people have mentioned being a little nervous, a little jittery. Me too. It happens every year. And I think it's interesting, but also telling because I think those things that give us a bit of the jitters are also those things that are very important to us. So notice if you feel those jitters and know you're on the right track. And then go create.

Today, I did something I rarely do, a little landscape. How odd! But I've been inspired by taking pictures of reflections in water lately, especially at this one little pond, hidden away in the woods, where these teeny, tiny green clovers float on the surface all around the edges. And in the flat water parts, I love the reflections of clouds and trees that appear. It's a through-the-looking-glass kind of thing that just delights me! I'm not sure if the painting comes across the way I see it, but I'm still liking it.

I also played with a new-to-me medium, glass bead gel, to get some fun texture going. Lots of layering goodness. This piece, which I'm calling Pond Reflections, is 6"x6" on clayboard.

Dear Leah,
This piece of work that you have created feels like such a magical experience, because you were truly there and appreciating all that it is. These moments are so true living to us, that they make us appreciate nature even more. I love the reflections in the pond in the painting, they feel very personal to you.
Happy Creating every day. :)
I know you must be enjoying it so.

Hi Leah,
I’ve really been enjoying the landscape imagery in your photos and now with this peace
( well that was an interesting typo…. I meant to say piece… but this painting does give me a feeling of peace.) And I love the blue. it makes me want to dive right in!!

Lovely, Leah! Reminds me of walking in the woods with you :) And very cool that you used the glass bead medium on this. Man, I’d love to see the texture of it in person!

This is unusual for you, and I like it! I like that you’re experimenting with a new medium too. Beautiful!

This piece is really interesting. i love how it drew me in and I had to look twice to see it all. It feels to me like looking up a beautiful gorge of forest into the night sky. Looking up through the treetops is one of my fave things to do!

Leah,
I just found you and your fabulous art challenge! Count me in and what a joy it will be! Thanks for putting yourself out there in such an authentic way. Love your piece and can’t wait to see what else you will bring.

This is gorgeous. Can you post an even closer-up detail? I’m curious about that glass bead gel. Sounds like the perfect thing to add to a piece about reflections.

xo

It’s beautiful :-) Thanks for hosting AEDM. It’s been inspiring already, and it’s only day 1. (Well ok, I’m up late so now it’s day 2).

Leah,
This is so magical looking!! I have been admiring your work lately, and this piece is just beautiful. I’m loving AED already – so many nice comments, including yours!
Thank you,
Judy

Hi there, how do I know if I’m on the list for AEDM? I sent an email but didn’t hear anything back. :)

Breathtaking! I LOVE it. Thanks so much, Leah, for creating and hosting this sacred space for us to dedicate some time to create art and be supported. And great tip on the glass bead gel.

This is so serene and luminous — I agree with Judy on the magical effect! Thank you.

Thanks so much, guys!

And Stephanie, I’m so sorry I missed your email! I’ve added you to the list and emailed you as well.

Love the colors! I would like to sign up for the Create Art Every Day challenge. I was unable to use the widget. Please count me in!

Hi Leah–such a beautiful piece! I wish the computer screen could give me a sense of the texture, but I will use my imagination. I just finished my first piece for day 1 and am about to post it on my blog.

Hi Leah! Wow! I bet this is very cool and tactile in person! It looks jewel like…sort of like a Gauguin. And, I like the dark and light leaves. Wonderful.

I would also love to see a detail photo of this piece. It is hard to get the whole effect I think on here with just the one. I am looking forward to this challenge, though I am a day behind due to an unavoidable road trip that took most of my time today that could have provided some artwork. So…like you said, I will start tomorrow. I am loving all the wonderful artwork so far on the flicker group too.

Wow, beautiful painting! A finished piece as well! It is certainly moving to the viewer, whether it reflects exactly the feelings you felt or not! Thanks for creating AEDM…I agree that the challenge creates a great atmosphere – the creations, community, support and sharing really makes it an exciting time! Grazie!

I can absolutely feel the reflections in the pond. I think that you did a great job of capturing them. I tried experimenting yesterday too with the beads (not in gel form though). I am not sure that I was happy with my results, I am re-working the project now. It is fun to try new things!

This is lovely. I need to make some more time for painting. I haven’t done much in a couple of months.

It’s so strange how the habits can disappear if you let them.

Leah, I can only echo what others have said about your reflective painting. It is lovely and oh so luminous.
It’s interesting how when trying something new brings a different dimension or depth to one’s work.
Have fun with the glass bead gel – now there’s some dimension!
Enjoy -Hugs, Janet

Whoa, that glass bead gel is very cool! I like the other gels on the linked page as well.

Great piece. Very luminous and yet full of depth. I am using your ‘art everyday’challenge to spur me on. I get so wrapped in the immediate mundane things that need to get done and forget about the pleasures of living. So, creativity – here I come. Back in the saddle again or in keeping with the theme – as Dora says: Keep on swimming. Keep on swimming! Angela
