Creative Every Day Theme for May: Intuition

April 26th, 2010

At the end of each month I will announce the totally optional theme for the following month. May 2010's theme will be: Intuition.

As always, this month's theme for the Creative Every Day Challenge is totally optional. Use it if it sparks you, continue being creative every day in your own way if it doesn't, or do something in between.

I'm thinking of this theme in terms of exploring your intuition in creative ways, writing about it, and making intuitive art. There are endless ways you can play with the theme and I'm open to any interpretation.

I'll be posting about the theme throughout the month on the blog to help keep you inspired. You can use the posts here for jumping off points or interpret the theme in your own creative way. If you need some suggestions, here are a few ideas to get you started. You could:

  • *Explore what following your intuition has meant to you in writing.
  • *Let the your intuition be your guide as you choose materials for a collage.
  • *Try intuitive painting.
  • *Follow your gut as you make choices in your day.
  • *Notice if you have any intuitive nudges to try a new medium and then go for it!
  • *Let your body move intuitively to music.
  • *Do some drawings with your eyes closed, open your eyes, and notice what you see in your scribbles.
  • *Begin a creation with no plan in mind. Let your intuition guide you to the medium, the first stroke, the next step.
  • *Spend some time getting still to re-connect with your still, small inner voice.

How to use the CED themes:

If you're feeling creatively stuck or blocked at any point during the month, use the theme as a source of inspiration to get you moving. Feel free to focus on the theme in your creative activities for the entire month or as much as you'd like.

Using the theme is entirely optional for CED participants. Use it if it inspires you, ignore it if it doesn't. I'll be sharing posts throughout the month around the theme (among other things) to get you thinking about how to incorporate it into your life. I'd love to hear how you use the theme in your creative world.

And have fun with it!

What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters, compared to what lies within us. ~R.W. Emerson

p.s. The art above was adapted from my painting, "Lantern" which is available here.

I love this theme…although I don’t always follow the theme with CED :) I do like the idea of intuitive art though…it seems that would be anything we do…aha!

I like the new theme. I think it’s perfect to lead on from the senses theme, especially for late comers like me (who didn’t really get into the senses theme yet)!

I actually thought about letting different senses lead my art just two days ago. I came up with similar ideas (painting without looking, and using other ways to translate what one senses on one channel into another language – creative outlet, let it be sound/music, paint, dance/movement.

Thanks again for hosting/running the CED challenge.

xx Ines

oh yum!
love the theme leah.
may is my birth month and i live on intuition so this is perfect for me ;)

this is an interesting theme. I wonder what will come up because of it. Even when i don’t create according to your theme, stuff always comes up that connects.

I do love the May theme of “intuition” & once again I think you’ve managed to choose a theme that will fit with where I am creatively. Thanks.

I love the picture for this post. I’m going to have to save to buy some of your wonderful art. Do you post to the UK I wonder?

We have a busy fortnight ahead full of visits, two weddings, Birthdays & all sorts. So it will be a challenge to keep up with my creative practice whilst being away. But this will be a good opportunity to find ways of keeping committed whilst busy.

Ooolala! This one sounds exciting. Can’t wait.

Oh boy…intuition…going with your gut! What a great subject for me for the month of May. I sure have been going with my instincts as I move toward the launch date of my website. I had been feeling like this was the right time to take the leap and with a lot of encouragement from my creative friends (especially those I have met right here) I decided to go with my instincts! YAY!

How perfect is this.

Synchronicity is so strong right now and goes hand-in-hand with intuition… on Sunday, for example, I learned about the Lantern poetry form.. and quickly wrote three of them and then, just like that… here is your offering. I love how this works!!

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!

Yay! I’m so glad you guys are digging the theme. A whole bunch of people mentioned it last month and I was bursting to shout, “That’s next month’s theme!!!” :-) It seems like the perfect thing, to flow into the 6th sense after a month of the 5 senses. Happy creating all y’all!

Lovely painting & really illustrates the new theme well.

Dear Leah,

Well, of course you know that this whole theme is right up my alley. And I love how you included it during the 2010 theme of the senses… since it is the 6th sense (-;

Love you and love your gorgeous intuitive painting!

Love love love your wonderful painting and the theme for May! Gosh, I meant to play more over here during April. Of course, intuition IS the sixth sense and isn’t springtime absolutely delightful!

Love the theme… and thanks for all your inspiration Leah!

what a beautiful painting!!!!

I love the painting! What gorgeous, deep colors. It perfectly captures the concept of intuition!

Leah, love that you used “Lantern” to illustrate the theme for May. Intuition is my thing . . . I have a deep, strong “sixth sense” which I use all the time. I love that you have chosen this as your May theme, and it will be fascinating reading all the posts and comments. BTW, I finally hung the “Lantern” print I won from you – it had to be where I would see it most often – so it ended up in the living room (family room, all the same) and it gets comments each time someone sees it. Most of all, it reminds me of my personal journey, as I wrote to you, and I am always reminded of how far I have come when I see that beautiful painting of yours! Thanks again for this beautiful gift!

It’s my birthday month too and I hope I can learn to trust my intuition! Thank you for your inspiration Leah!

This may not sound very creative, but I finally took time to learn the Organizer module of Photoshop Elements 8, a program that I’ve really never taken time for. With the help of a good book (The Missing Manual series, no affiliation)I brought into “My Catalog” some 30,000 photos from our hard disk, ranging from 1998 to present. What a feast for the eyes; so many photos of “someday” art subjects as well as completed projects: paintings, quilts, wearable art, even cards and scrapbook pages.

I feel more peaceful inside, knowing I can view, alter and finally work with our beautiful photos.

too bad i only found you this late in the month! i can’t wait to use this theme for what’s left of it…and beyond!

Leah, Thank you for the opportunity to post. Intuition is what we use day to day and it is is a big part of who and how we are in life.
Ruth

I LOVE this theme. I feel that art and creating helps to open up and allow intuition to be heard. We all have an inner voice.
I am a little tardy to the party this month :( but I definitely will be adding some stuff, starting tomorrow.
