Creative Every Day Check-In: May 31 – June 6

May 31st, 2010

This weekly check-in post is a place for Creative Every Day Challenge participants to share their creative activities.

Join in the Challenge: You can sign up for the  2010 Creative Every Day Challenge anytime! Find out more and fill out the sign-up form here to join in!

Ways to share: Once you've signed up, you can leave a comment on this post and/or use the "Mr. Linky" widget below to link to a blog post(s) about your creative activities during the days of 5/31/10 - 6/6/10.

The widget below is an optional method of sharing your creativity that makes it easier for others to check out what you're up to. You can use it to link to a blog post (or posts) or flickr image during the week listed. Or if you have a bunch of posts and don't want to link to all of them, you can link to your main blog page once. Do it in a way that makes sense and is fun for you! If you're unsure about how to use the widget, check out the "How to use the Mr. Linky widget" section on the Creative Every Day Challenge page. (If you're reading this in a RSS reader or email subscription, you will not see the "Mr. Linky widget", so click on over to the blog to use it.) If the Mr. Linky widget is missing from this blog post, it's probably a problem with their server and it will come back as soon as it's fixed. You can always leave your link in the comments.

You can also take advantage of the great CED flickr group to post your images and see what others are up to. If you're on Twitter, there's a growing Twitter list of CED participants and you can use the hashtag #CED2010 to help others find your Creative Every Day tweets!

Theme: The (totally optional) theme for May's theme is Intuition and June's theme is Bliss. I'll be posting about the theme throughout the month and you can feel free to use it to inspire your creations, follow your own muse, or do some combination. You can find out more about this month's theme and some prompts to get you started with May's theme here and June's theme here.

Happy Creating!

We are having experiences all the time which may on occasion render some sense of this, a little intuition of where your bliss is. Grab it. No one can tell you what it is going to be. You have to learn to recognize your own depth. All the time. It is miraculous. ~Joseph Campbell

Uh Oh! Two themes that are near and dear. Need to get to work !

Looking forward to Bliss month.

I have loved tuning into my intuition this month.
Some really wonderful creative things have happened including a great way to make nice art journal backgrounds in journals with paper too think to use wet mediums. I will post that one soon.
Also tried slow journalling and making a bookmark for a friend using entirely intuition (no planning).
It worked really well!

I love June’s theme :-)

Happy Memorial Day! It’s funny, intuition is near and dear to my heart, but it’s like the elephant in the room it’s so huge it’s hard for me to describe and share. I’m looking forward to Bliss as a theme. Sounds perfect for the first month of summer vacation!

I haven’t been feeling particularly creative lately, and interestingly enough, I had observed that my life is markedly missing JOY. So the June theme is perfect for inspiring me to find bliss (because I know it’s there — I’m just not tapping into it!) in my life and express it in some art.

This morning I came across some old business magnets and they just called out to be altered into art! So that’s what’s on the agenda for this afternoon:)

I can’t believe May just flew on by! Since emotions play a huge role in intuition, I have been more in tuned with my emotions and trust my own heart and intuition. Thus, I’ve been experimenting with gogyohka, a 5-line poem that is very similar to the tanka. I love the fluidity of the gogyohka and am using it to express how I feel in the moment without having to worry about syllable-counting in the tanka. It is still really neat to learn a new poetic form!

Now, I can’t wait to find my bliss for the month of June!

Also, Happy Memorial Day, everyone!!

I painted a portrait of artist Gritty Jane. The link I submitted is the finished painting, but if you want to see progress shots, scroll down.

I just posted my first “bliss” art project — using the old magnets as I promised above :)

Hello all. I had a new adventure this week.. Unfortunately my Aunt died. My sister and I wanted to attend her service, but my sister hates to fly. So I booked us tickets on Amtrak from Boston to Baltimore. It was a new adventure for us both. The train goes quite a ways along the coastline and we were treated to wonderful views. We talked and talked and talked. So good to have uninterupted time to catch up. I learned new things about my relatives (being by far the youngest in my family – yes – a mistake as it was). It was wonderful. We went down one day and back the next. A whirlwind trip so we could make it back before the long weekend. My sister lives on Cape Cod and had to beat all the tourists! I guess I’m rambling. I didn’t get any work done but now I am full of ideas. I want to do a collage that mirrors all that I saw through my trip from the window. Some good and some bad. I’ll share it when it comes to fruition.

Dear Leah,
Hope you are well.
Tis amazing how the two themes are so easily connected, and for my first post in June is a big spark of bliss into helping others.
A blessed June to you, and whatever comes forth in your life.

HA! Don’t drop dead, Leah, but I finally joined the CED Challenge. Only took me, what, 2 years? Are there prizes? Can I win Tabbers? ;-)

Seriously, I hope I did everything right. I thought I remembered reading that I should link to a specific POST on my site, not just the home page. I think I screwed that up, but my post is called “Am I Creative Every Day?” I’ll try to get it right next time :-)

Hummmm Bliss Hummmm I’m not sure what bliss means to me Leah. I think I am going to have to do a bit of poking around on other participants’ blogs and your posts and see what comes up for others. Hummm… I feel like Winnie the Pooh on “a think.”

Struggling to write and create amidst chaos, noise and many children – oh yes it is half term here and I’m rather tired! But I’ve tried a couple of pages in my art journal and have posted the results on my blog today.

Hope you all are having a creative happy week!

Kat

Hi Leah and all,

I’ve missed you all while I have been taking care of my Mom; and I am thrilled to be back and hoping to get back into the “art” thing.

xoxo

Hi Leah,

Thank you so much for starting Creative Everyday Challenge. It really helps me revive my creativity! :)

Well, I’m off for a long weekend of BLISS as I attend the Illustrator’s workshop in the Pocono Mountains. Wish me luck!

Today I’m celebrating!!! It has been an incredible 8-week journey. Last night I designed the perfect happy, juicy Japanese flower arrangement for the occasion. Today’s post definitely ties in with the bliss theme. I’m following my bliss these days and truly lovin’ life!

Have a lovely weekend!

This week’s bliss has been a lot of recycling and repurposing and finding stuff! Earlier this week I felted several sweaters I found on my weekly thrift shop run.

I also gave a shot at unravelling a sweater with this wonderful mix of nubby greens and earthy browns that I think is going to make a marvelous hat!

Yesterday was a morning at the park shooting pictures of flowers and trees for upcoming needlework designing.

* Intuition* and* Bliss* : how like you, Leah, to link these two emotions together. My art continues to be more about people and their journeys through life’s different experiences.
Anyone of the new pieces, I’m going to post, would fit into Intuition and Bliss. But they could be seen in another way, as well. I never know what people will see. Maybe something entirely different than what I intended ?

Thank you to accept me to play with you, just arrive for Bliss… i will take a look around me before begin!
