Creative Every Day Check-In: August 16 – 22

August 16th, 2010

This weekly check-in post is a place for Creative Every Day Challenge participants to share their creative activities.

Join in the Challenge: You can sign up for the  2010 Creative Every Day Challenge anytime! Find out more and fill out the sign-up form here to join in!

Ways to share: Once you've signed up, you can leave a comment on this post and/or use the "Mr. Linky" widget below to link to a blog post(s) about your creative activities during the days of 8/16/10 - 8/22/10.

The widget below is an optional method of sharing your creativity that makes it easier for others to check out what you're up to. You can use it to link to a blog post (or posts) or flickr image during the week listed. Or if you have a bunch of posts and don't want to link to all of them, you can link to your main blog page once. Do it in a way that makes sense and is fun for you! If you're unsure about how to use the widget, check out the "How to use the Mr. Linky widget" section on the Creative Every Day Challenge page. (If you're reading this in a RSS reader or email subscription, you will not see the "Mr. Linky widget", so click on over to the blog to use it.) If the Mr. Linky widget is missing from this blog post, it's probably a problem with their server and it will come back as soon as it's fixed. You can always leave your link in the comments.

You can also take advantage of the great CED flickr group to post your images and see what others are up to. If you're on Twitter, there's a growing Twitter list of CED participants and you can use the hashtag #CED2010 to help others find your Creative Every Day tweets!

Theme: The (totally optional) theme for August is the element of Fire. I'll be posting about the theme throughout the month and you can feel free to use it to inspire your creations, follow your own muse, or do some combination. You can find out more about this month's theme and some prompts to get you started with August's theme here.

Happy Creating!

In everyone's life, at some time, our inner fire goes out. It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being. We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit. ~Albert Schweitzer

Love today’s quote! The Creative Every Day group certainly helps to rekindle my inner spirit. I hope everyone has a playful, creative week!

I’ve been a busy beaver! Besides creating a few little things (including a poem), I re-designed my blog’s look, and even created my own banner for it. (I’m pleased with myself for figuring out how to do that — all on my own! ;) I don’t know if I like it well enough for it to become my “signature look” or anything, but I’ve had fun playing with it and learning the process. Do stop by for a visit!

I’m having a hard time with the CED theme, though. While I am definitely drawn to the reds and yellows of fire in home decorating and art, I haven’t found any inspiration in them of late. Funny, that. Maybe it’s just been too stinkin’ hot here to be thinking of fire — I need to think of ice to keep cool:)

Anyway — happy CED! The challenge continues to keep me on track!

i am getting a big creative fire started this week :)

Dear Leah,
Look forward to the challenge. I shall hope to dedicate some time to ‘fire’ and let my inner guide follow. I have now created a new site, dedicated to my art journey and hope you can add the link to your site. I have emailed you the details. Much love and happiness to all.

Coming back from a computer melt-down which caused me to lose all my email messages, email and snail mail contacts and my abstracts among other things. Now, I’m attempting to get used to the new Windows 7. Good thing I enjoy learning :) .
Stay inspired!

Well, I got fired up enough to start on the largest piece I have ever attempted. That said, it is the dog days of summer and I have been away more than home. That will continue this week as I head to NH. Lots of ideas to charge ahead on when I get back. Have a great week everyone!

We are hot here on Mayne Island with temperatures in the 90s which is warm indeed for us. The nights have been hot as well. I have big fat tomatoes as large as two fists turning fire engine red on the fine. We are eating tomato and basil with sea salt and fresh ground pepper noon and night. Forrest fires someplace are making our throats raw from the smoke. FIRE is what it is all about right now. So I am painting the cool cool ocean. Thanks Leah!

I have been all fired up to get my daughters graduation quilt done that I made her in 2007. I took a longarm quilting class a few weeks ago and this weekend I quilted it with some minor mishaps that I am have to rip out…

Hi! I am having fun with this challenge, trying to look at how fire has influenced how I live. I’m having fun drawing candles and candlesticks…and a few without candles.

Enjoying the fire theme this month, I’m finding that even when I create something ‘non-fire’ related that somehow, some small nod to ‘fire’ sneaks in there anyway.

A bunch of different things this week. Not a group in the bunch. Moons and Bears and Twilight. Trees and sunsets.
Unthemed.

well i haven’t actually created a piece relating to your theme this month, but i feel like i have a fire under me.

I’m using my creative fire this month to help my kids with some home reno projects. Oh, I’m painting all right…walls, ceilings….and I’m really enjoying it!

Feeling a little unbalanced this last week with the creativity stirring things up.
I know it’s all good, it’s just a little tough right now to find a good balance.

Not getting much done right now… just living in the moment and enjoying the long summer days and the passage of time.

my fire has felt a little weak lately…so I created a yantra about nourishment! I’m doing my best to reflect on how to nourish my creative fire!

Burning astray, as usual… but being creative, regardless :-) Visit my blog for ways to turn unwanted veggies into art. Now there’s a practical skill, I tell you!

August is the one month I’m not traveling this year, so artistic output has been delightfully high so far. Love it!

You just have to take a peek at the “red hot bouquet” my hubby left for me on the dining room table last evening…

Working away like mad on my novel, my poetry, my art. Hope all is well with all of you!

Featuring a lantern today!

Thanks! Great work all around here!

I keep chugging along. I’m trying to do TWO pieces every day, since I am behind in my personal challenge of 100 things in 100 days. August is full of small works and the occasional larger more involved piece that I’ve been working on a while. Fire hasn’t really worked its way in thematically yet. I don’t know, except for the fire of inspiration, I guess.

as usual I am behind in submitting my creative work for the week but I have finally arrived – this summer has been a tremendous move forward in creating for me – I am loving it~!~

I re-found my painting creativity in August. I will paint some new pictures. I am painting through synesthesia which makes me see colors when I hear names and numbers. These colors I transform in paintings. Colors are my life.

I’m doing a project called “The Sketchbook Project 2011″ and wanted to share some of my work here. Theme for fire I haven’t yet incorporated in my work yet, but plan to!
