3 Balloon Day
November 4th, 2010
This piece was based on a doodle I found in my sketchbook from months ago. Old sketchbook doodles are a great source to return to when you're feeling short on ideas!
I think the colors of the clouds were inspired by the gloomy weather outside my window. It's been windy and stormy all day long. Just now the wind actually howled!
I think a cup of cocoa is in order, don't you?
As I finished up this little painting for day 4 of Art Every Day Month, a little rhyme popped into my head:
"Today, my friends, is a 3 balloon day. It would only take 3 to float me away."
She's approximately 6"x12" with acrylic and ink on canvas paper.

Very beautiful work. I love the idea of defining and rating your mood of the day with ballons.
Very inspiring. : )

I love the colours of the clouds are lovely. I like the girls stripey tights and the fact they are small yet effective red balloons. I’d be rather happy if one of my doodles turned out so well one day. Kat

Great color, texture, movement and composition. I love that you extracted the image from your sketchbook. I needed that reminder. I have so much that yet needs to come to life with color. I must get over this notion that daily creativity must always start from scratch.

Oh to be carried away by balloons! My creative act for the day was to clean my house and make my floors shiny! And I feel very satisfied:)

I like this one, Leah!! had some troubles to send you a message a couple of days ago (of course I forgot what was in it -in the lost message- but I remember having said “thank you for doing this”. Let’s see if it works today!

She is adorable! It’s cold and windy here too but hubby forgot to buy my hot chocolate at the store today. Bad hubby.

i absolutely adore this piece! it’s fun to spin around in my mind… is she trying to keep the balloons with her on the ground, are they pulling her away or is she simply letting go?

This is so lovely. It has such movement. Even though you were inspired by a gloomy day it makes me smile to look at it.

Beautiful. The clouds look like waves. Waves of emotion maybe? At first glance this is a simple little piece but the more you look the more comes out at you. Lovely

Hey Leah, that’s great – you’ve done a droplet poem just like me! Love the painting too – sometimes getting carried away by balloons would be nice, despite the clouds. X

Leah, I LOVE her and the rhyme to go with her. The hint of pink coming through the clouds and her striped stockings are killing me. (in the best possible way!
