Paper Snowflakes

December 16th, 2010

Seeing teeny-tiny snowflakes dancing through the air this week has made me want to make my own paper snowflakes. I don't think I've made them since I was a kid!

I pulled out some fun paper I had laying around, and spent some time cutting away tonight. Later, I strung them all onto dental floss using tape and hung them from a shelf in the family room. I think my favorite part about them is the cool shadows they make on the wall!

I’d keep those up year round, Leah. Love how the shadows play on the wall, too. Great idea.

Those are fun and look great!

they’re so pretty….my Maddie (grandaughter) was making them here the other night too! =) ’tis the season!

Now you’re talking! I made snowflakes for Christmas once, when we didn’t have any snow. I wanted the kids to have a “white” Christmas, so paper snowflakes had to do. They were fun to make and looked lovely. (Brightly colored wrapping paper makes great snowflakes.)

Since I had so many laying around after the holidays, I started using them in my art, and have since added other shapes (fish, flowers, birds). They’re wonderful fun and so cheerful.

Brings back childhood:-)

ooooo those shadows were the first thing I noticed in the picture! Like minds…ha ha

these are great, love the colors.

These are lovely! I love the colors!

Such fun paper cut snowflakes. Can’t believe you used dental floss !

Haven’t made these is a few years! I love the shadows too! Reminds me of the shadows twinkle lights on the tree cast on the ceiling in the dark. I could watch for hours. Not this year tho – when the tree went over it took out the twinkle lights. I know what’s on my after holiday shopping list!

I’ve been experimenting with different poem forms. I particularly like haiku and the modified lune (five words in the first line, seven in the second, five in the third).

Here’s one that I came up with for this month’s theme of ‘air’:

Winter

Breathe in the biting air.

It filters down, and touches the marrow.

A new day has begun.

I like the shadows, too!

I love your paper snowflakes! It’s wonderful to create such connections with Winter, and I love the way you did so. The shadows are really neat. :) Hope you are well.

Those are cool shadows. I love that you used color paper. You are such an artist. {wink}

So fun!!!

I’ve also been inspired by the weather to try and draw and cut out snowflakes. It is such fun and connects me to childhood. My children are now on their school hols so I can see us all making snowflake decorations together this week.
These look very pretty and like you I think I like the cool shadows they make the best!
