Day 16: Ghost Town
November 16th, 2011
This piece was a bit frustrating for me most of the time. Nothing was going the way I wanted it to and at several points I was ready to scrap it all together. At several points it was a big mess! But I kept going and in the end, I had very messy hands and I like it! It's 4"x4" on board with collage, ink, and acrylic paint.

Ooh. I’m so excited. I think this is the first time I get the first to comment. The first to say, I love this! I’m so glad you stayed with this. So funny (well, not so funny), I had the same frustrating experience with a painting these past two weeks. I’ve worked through it and come to peace with the result, which I’ll post later this week. Great job sticking with it. This has such great texture to it.

If you hadn’t mentioned it was only 4×4, I would have assumed it was much bigger. That’s a lot of texture, detail and interest crammed into such a small space. It’s a very cool painting.

Sometimes you have to fight yourself to come up with a finished piece. I like it!

I think that your frustration was captured in the houses and it creates a great sense of energy…very in keeping with the mood of the piece…very deep and disturbing. Lovely!

I was taking a class a while ago and was very displeased with my work that day. The teacher told me to keep going with it – the ones we struggle with end up some of our favorites. Not the wise words I wanted at the moment – since it meant working through the frustration but she was right. What I love about yours is that the more I looked at it the more I saw – the way the details & textures worked to create such feelings!!!

This particular painting deserves a close look. It reminds me of mill towns along rivers. The lives lived in those areas…dark, crowded, rushing but with large families and all that entails…..
Filled with life and emotion Leah. Fabulous

I really like this. A lot! I know what you mean about struggling with a piece. That is the theme of my AEDM#17 post too. Sometimes these works of art of ours just have a mind of their own. They clearly just can’t see our vision.

I love this. Funny what you say about how frustrating it was. I’m going to remember that and keep going with projects I think I should junk.

I think it is wonderful. It reminds me of what my neighborhood is starting to look like and feel like now that the branches are naked and the trees are holding themselves rooted to go throughthe next cold season to come.
Happy Thursday, Leah !

Love how you can get “messy” to look so together at the same time… if that makes any sense! Would love to see a video of you art-ing away one day!

I really like it. It always amazes me how the first impression that people get from a painting isn’t always what I put into it. I wouldn’t have guessed that you struggled with this. I love your work, and I’m totally amazed that you’re able to make such beauty while taking care of a baby! You’re amazing. Thanks for hosting AEDM again, it’s a great time!
