Day 6 – Emily and the Deer
November 6th, 2011
A quick drawing today, using some new brush pens I picked up. I had no plans, just started to draw and the deer came. I seem to be connecting with deer lately. I'll have to look them up in my Animal Speak book!
I hope you had a beautifully creative weekend!

I love it! It reminds me of that piece from Fantasia 2000 of the water spirit and the stag that went with Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite. I’ve also been very into Tombow markers lately – I’m a nerd for markers. Sharpie just came out with some brush tip markers that are being marketed as fabric markers, but they’re kind of interesting to use on paper – very juicy, not quite as fast drying, but a very expressive tip.

I love deer. We raised one when I was a kid. I bonded with our sweet Charlie Deer and am really enjoying seeing deer pop up in your art.

This is beautiful! The colour is so vibrant…it reminds me of a much-loved childhood tale of the Snow Queen for some strange reason.
Lovely work.

lovely colors and lovely filler in each of the figures. love how you’re able to start with no ideas and such a pretty drawing evolves.

Good work, the patterns are pretty. I read everything in the preview in Amazon, Thanks for recommending that book. It looks good. Btw, the source I have says deer symbolizes grace, compassion, gentleness, meekness and natural beauty. It has feminine qualities and may point to the feminine aspect within yourself. It also represents independence, alertness, and virility.

Oh, how lovely!! I love everything about this one, but the use of the darker blue as an outline/shadow really makes it all “pop”.
YOU ARE SOOOO TALENTED!!!! Thanks for sharing this with us.
I too, occasionally refer to the Animal Speak book, as well, in reference to themes that show up in my art.
