Creative Every Day Theme for January: New

December 27th, 2011

At the end of each month I will announce the totally optional theme for the following month. For the month of January 2012, the theme will be New.

As always, this month's theme for the Creative Every Day Challenge is totally optional. Use it if it inspires you, continue being creative every day in your own way if it doesn't, or do something in between. You can sign up for the 2012 Creative Every Day Challenge anytime. More info can be found here and the sign-up page is here.

I'll be posting about the theme throughout the month on the blog to help keep you inspired. You can use the posts here for jumping off points or interpret the theme in your own creative way. If you need some suggestions, here are a few ideas to get you started. You could:

  • *What do you want to bring your way in the new year? Make a vision board of what you'd like to manifest.
  • *Try something new this month. A new medium, technique, or style you've been wanting to try.
  • *Bring new life to an unfinished piece of writing or artwork.
  • *Make your space new again by re-arranging things, putting up new art on the walls or bringing in some fresh flowers.
  • *Focus on what's new for you in a poem or piece of free-form writing.
  • *Explore a new place for inspiration.
  • *Try a new recipe or sample a new food that you've never tried before.
  • *Upcycle a piece of clothing to make it new again.

How to use the CED themes:

If you're feeling creatively stuck or blocked at any point during the month, use the theme as a source of inspiration to get you moving. Feel free to focus on the theme in your creative activities for the entire month or as much as you'd like.

Using the theme is entirely optional for CED participants. Use it if it inspires you, ignore it if it doesn't. I'll be sharing posts throughout the month around the theme (among other things) to get you thinking about how to incorporate it into your life. I'd love to hear how you use the theme in your creative world.

And have fun with it!

I’m trying to simplify my life a little so that I have more time to create this year. I am looking forward to being able to participate more and I’m anxious to start on some projects and mediums that are new to me. May this be a great creative year for us all!

Hello, I follow to you for a long time and from much time I was tried to enroll to me but I feared not to succeed, today me they are determined and me they are enrolled. They are inexpert but I have much desire d’ to learn to express to me through l’ art. I ask excuse for my English…

Your art work called “A Timely Message” is brilliant! It really spoke to me. You see, my favorite color is blue, my favorite number is 6, my hair color is dark brown, I’m so ready for the new year and I love the symbolism of the bluebird: renewal, happiness, contentment, and good health. 2011 was a bittersweet year for me. I loved, I lost. I lived, I learned. That painting made my heart smile today and makes me feel hopeful. It’s just lovely. Thank you and bless you for sharing this with us.

Great theme for January. I was just thinking today that I want to expand my range of art techniques and subject matter this year. I just signed up for Creative Every Day 2011. So excited. I love your site and the inspiration I get from all the participating artists!

Loved signing up for year… what is it, 4? I think it is.. or 3? Something like that. I love being reminded of creativity every day, though I think I inherently do so, it is grand to have a creative, supportive community I am accountable to as well!

How New of You, Mr McGoo,all that and your little dog too…

I tried a new recipe and helped make an alphabet chart with my daughter.

Great theme to begin the new year. I think I might re-New some of my old canvases that I don’t like. Happy New Year!

Love this idea of “new”. It really jump-started my creative flow. I posted about new beginnings on my blog today and am about to start a new type of stamping involving walnut inks and oil-based ink which will resist one another. Can’t wait to start!

I am REALLY excited about this! I just found a link to this this evening..yay for me!!! :) ))
