Art Every Day Month Check-In: Day 1

November 1st, 2012

aedmlogored

Welcome! Today is the 1st day of Art Every Day Month! I'm thrilled that you'll be joining me for a month of creating.

I'm preparing this post in a cafe on Halloween night because we've been without power for a couple days due to Hurricane Sandy (we're fine!) The power returned last night, but no internet yet, so here I sit. My heart goes out to all those affected by the Hurricane. I hope that you haven't experienced too much damage and that you and your loved ones are safe and sound.

I usually post my art at the end of the day, but every morning there will be a check-in post like this one, where you can share your work whenever you're ready to do so.

The box below is a widget that I provide each day as an optional place to share a direct link (blog post or flickr image) to that day's creation. If you don't have something to share today, don't worry about it! Share when you can. In the meantime, be sure to check out what other participants are creating! Check out the links from today's post and the links on the participant page for instant inspiration. You can also see lots of great work in the AEDM flickr group. Feel free to share your work there too!

If you use the widget, please link to a specific blog post, not your main blog page or website (or you can link to a specific image if you're linking to a flickr page.) For example, last year for day one I linked to my first post: http://creativeeveryday.com/creativeeveryday/2010/11/the-owl-and-the-pussycat.html instead of my main blog page: http://www.creativeeveryday.com. This makes it easier for people to find your work.  If you want to share, but don't have a specific page to link to, feel free to use the comments section of this post to share what you're working on. If you're posting less than once a day, no problem! Simply use the latest one of these posts to share a link to your creation. For some, it's too much to keep up with posting every day, but don't let that get you down. Do it if you can and if you can't, just keep on creating, that's the most important part. If you get off track and miss a few days of creating, don't let that freeze you up either. Just pick up where you left off and keep moving forward. One foot in front of the other. You are making your life a more creative one with each step.

How to participate in Art Every Day Month: Check out the AEDM info page for all the details, instructions on how to get involved, and then visit the participant sign up page before you use the link widget to share your creations. The Information page also has instructions about how to use the widget below, if you're having any trouble with it.

Survival Guide: If you feel like you could use some more support, prompts, and motivation to keep going throughout the month, check out the Art Every Day Month Survival Guide.

Twitter: If you're on Twitter (I'm on there as @leah_art), I'll be using the hashtag #aedm2012 to mark Art Every Day Month tweets. It helps to find others who are tweeting about AEDM!

Instagram: You can use the same #aedm2012 hashtag if you're playing along on Instagram.

Creative Every Day Challenge participants: If you're not doing Art Every Day Month, you can still use any of the daily Art Every Day Month check-in posts to leave your weekly link.

It’s good to read that you are safe. My heart goes out to you and everyone who has been affected by this horrific storm. What a great example you have set for us.

Hope you’re ok in the storm!

I failed AED last time because I was too specific, this time I will allow ANY kind of art even a little doodle like today’s offering!

I think what I will do is be creative in one form or another each day but post it once or twice a week as I know myself I cannot keep up posting everyday.

Thanks for this great idea! :)

Glad to hear you’re safe Leah. I’m pumped for this year’s AEDM!
Stay inspired!

Thank you for letting us know you are ok Leah! I was thinking of you as I watched CNN here in Australia so you are very thoughtful to post today. Take care, love from Kerry xx

Thanks Leah for doing this challenge and it certainly will be that. So glad you are safe…take care

I just signed up for this years AEDM, and I canĀ“t wait to get started.

I am glad you are ok!

Thank you! So looking forward to this!

It is so nice to be back Leah. Will be wonderful to see everyone’s art this month

[...] It’s Art Every Day Month people! [...]

So excited to be participating this year. Looking forward to seeing all of the variety of creative projects.

Glad to hear you are safe. We missed the worst of it at our end of the state.
I am thankful for this challenge and the fresh creative energy it brings me each year.

i’ve done nanowrimo before … i love the idea of this even more! thanks!

I’m happy to learn that everyone is safe and sound from the storm. Hope things going to be fine soon.

I participated in this challenge in 2010 and always think about it. This year I come back and hope I can make it all through the month :)

So glad to know everyone is safe from the storm. Just want to say thanks for hosting this event Leah! Looking forward to the challenge.

So happy that November is here and that you are still hosting AEDM, Leah! Looking forward to the motivation that always comes over me when November rolls around and I have a chance to do this!
Good luck to all!

Excited to be part of this creative challenge. I couldn’t sleep last night with the creative juices flowing! It feels sweet to create art and share it in community. Thanks Leah, very excited to join!

Lovely idea – am going to use it to encourage some experiments outside my usual art practices .

I’m trying it again! I think I’ll hang in there better this year (at least I hope so). I see lots of folks I know from last year and the year before, will be fun!

Glad you guys are safe. My house still has no power – but we are staying by dad’s house where it’s warm.
Happy to participate this year :)

Really please to be taking part in this challenge and to have posted a link, even though I didn’t complete anything today. Glad to hear you’re safe.

Glad to hear that you are okay . . . managed to get my 1st days creative project done – woohoo. Thanks for providing this fun way to be inspired and creative….looking forward to seeing what everyone creates.

I hope all of our east coast artists are safe and warm. I’m going to participate this year by at least doing a little something every day, but will probably only post once or twice a week.

Leah, I’m so glad that you are safe and well. I had a great time last year and this year, anything counts that I create even if it isn’t finished. :)

So glad you and your family are safe and sound, and that you have power again! It’s admirable of you to get AEDM up and running on time; we would have understood if you had to delay the start. That being said, I’m glad we’re here. Thanks, Leah!

Posted my link on the wrong bit to begin with so sorry! Really looking forward to the rest of the month!

Glad to hear you’re safe and well. Thanks for a great challenge – hoping to make it through to the end :)

I am so thankful to have something to take my mind off the storm damage. We need some creativity now more than ever.

Last year was my 1st time participating in AEDM. I had a blast and excited to participate again. :-D

I think I’m now officially in! My first ride in AEDM, although I’ve done a similar challenge with a friend this year, when we committed to create something every day and publish a post about it on our blogs, for a month. It was great! It’s a wonderful way to extract those creative juices every day. It’s easy to get too comfortable – I’m sure you know what I mean.
Have fun, everyone! :)

[...] growing any facial hair and have no desire to write a novel. But today I started the first day of Art Every Day Month, or AEDM. The idea is to create something every day in November, but without pressure. So if your world gets [...]

I think this will be a good thing, not so much to push my creativity…but to push myself into being more accepting of my work. Thank you for creating this group and making such a project possible. This is going to be fun!

I’m so, so excited to back here at AEDM again this year! It really was the kickstart to my return to art. I’ll always be so grateful for that. Glad you’re safe and sound xx

Last-minute sign-up. I’ve started a series just for this challenge that will go up on our blog beginning tonight at 11:20 (Central), with each subsequent piece going live one minute later the next day until we hit midnight. This is a great excuse to try a few new things. Experiment a little. See what happens. Thanks for the creative boost, and for hosting the challenge.

I wish all of you on the east coast well.
I’m glad I decided to do this. I want to surprise myself and give myself permission to have fun with the process!

Thank you for hosting AEDM, Leah. I don’t know that I will get something completed every day, but my goal is to at least work on something daily =).

I’m glad to hear y’all are no longer without power.

Leah, Thank you again for facilitating AEDM this year. It’s such a boost to know how many people are participating in the challenge!!!! To get started, I began to colorize a doodle I had drawn a few weeks ago.

Thanks for this annual creative focal point. I am so happy to be part of this group again this year. I am looking forward to seeing how this challenge unfolds for everyone in the group.

Oh derar it is day 4 already and I have only just got round to posting! Thanks for the challenge. Best wishes, Moira
