Art Every Day Month, Day 2

November 2nd, 2013

aedmlogored

Today is the 2nd day of Art Every Day Month! I hope you had a great first day and are excited about the month ahead!

****

***QUESTION FOR ALL***  A few people have asked me about creating a Facebook group for Art Every Day Month. I've resisted the idea because I like having a central place where people can share and find each other's work (plus it's another thing to manage), but I also want to make it easy for everyone to participate. Would you like/use a Facebook group for Art Every Day Month as well as this?

***

I usually post my art at the end of the day, but every morning there will be a check-in post like this one, where you can share your work whenever you're ready to do so.

The box below is a widget that I provide each day as an optional place to share a direct link (blog post or flickr image) to that day's creation. If you don't have something to share today, don't worry about it! Share when you can. In the meantime, be sure to check out what other participants are creating! Check out the links from today's post and the links on the participant page for instant inspiration. You can also see lots of great work in the AEDM flickr group. Feel free to share your work there too!

If you use the widget, please link to a specific blog post, not your main blog page or website (or you can link to a specific image if you're linking to a flickr page.) For example, in a past AEDM, for day one I linked to my first post: http://creativeeveryday.com/creativeeveryday/2010/11/the-owl-and-the-pussycat.html instead of my main blog page: http://www.creativeeveryday.com. This makes it easier for people to find your work.  If you want to share, but don't have a specific page to link to, feel free to use the comments section of this post to share what you're working on. If you're posting less than once a day, no problem! Simply use the latest one of these posts to share a link to your creation. For some, it's too much to keep up with posting every day, but don't let that get you down. Do it if you can and if you can't, just keep on creating, that's the most important part. If you get off track and miss a few days of creating, don't let that freeze you up either. Just pick up where you left off and keep moving forward. One foot in front of the other. You are making your life a more creative one with each step.

How to participate in Art Every Day Month: Check out the AEDM info page for all the details, instructions on how to get involved, and then visit the participant sign up page before you use the link widget to share your creations. The Information page also has instructions about how to use the widget below, if you're having any trouble with it.

Survival Guide: If you feel like you could use some more support, prompts, and motivation to keep going throughout the month, check out the Art Every Day Month Survival Guide.

Twitter: If you're on Twitter (I'm on there as @leah_art), I'll be using the hashtag #aedm2013 to mark Art Every Day Month tweets. It helps to find others who are tweeting about AEDM!

Instagram: You can use the same #aedm2013 hashtag if you're playing along on Instagram.

Creative Every Day Challenge participants: If you're not doing Art Every Day Month, you can still use any of the daily Art Every Day Month check-in posts to leave your weekly link.

Although it sounds like a great idea, I have found in the past that facebook pages often get full of other stuff and ads. It also adds more work for you so unless the linky list gets too big to manage I would say stay with what works. Thanks for the challenge, I think it is really helping me get back to work

Hi Leah,

Personally, I’d prefer to NOT have a Facebook group only because I’m already a member of so many art related groups on Facebook and I can barely keep up with them all as it is. I do like the blogging aspect more but that’s entirely my opinion. It’s more what you feel you want to do. I’m happy to follow along with the challenge via blogging. :)

No, no & thrice no!
I know that people want things all in one easily accessible place, but as Vicki has pointed out, the artwork gradually gets swallowed up and lost amidst the other stuff.
I have seen many vibrant forums, swaps and other groups be killed off by FB, please don’t let this be another victim.

Hi I’ve just registered to take part in Art Every Day, which is both exciting and really scary too! Fortunately I’ve just done my first ever paintings which I’ve just submitted to an exhibition, so that’s my first entry, better go and do some art today now!..You asked us to add a comment when we’d registered, is this where you want the comment? I don’t want a facebook page, I’d rather have it all in one place.

Hi Leah, I’m linked up correctly today, YAY!! My images seem to be too big though and won’t let me use the pictures I want. Not sure why this is but will work on it.
Happy to be back for Day two! I am in agreement with the FB, I’m not into that although I have two private ones from previous classes but that’s it. I like blogging and having this place to visit. There were some links I couldn’t visit yesterday because of this and missed out telling them I enjoyed their art.
Thanks for this place to inspire and share all month long. It’s full of talent and amazing people!

so I updated my website and now my blog won’t publish. So I’ll just keep doing them, or perhaps post urls from my fb because I *am* doing art every day! And then come play catchup when I find someone who can get me back up and running.

I would not participate in a facebook group for all of the reasons posted above against it. I love visiting peoples blogs and flickr photos. I am a huge fan of Google+’s communities, but even then I would not recommend the additional effort for you.

I haven’t blogged yet, but yesterday I did some embroidery and some music practice.=)

No, I wouldn’t use a facebook group as I don’t actually have (or want) an account. I’m happy with this here thus far.=)

I don’t trust FB and so deleted my account a few years back, so I wouldn’t visit FB.

This is my fourth year participating and I enjoy visiting Creative Every Day throughout the year :) .

Stay inspired!

Decided to join the challenge today after reading about it on the Dirty Footprints Studio blog.

Not a member of Facebook for many reasons and would not visit for this challenge. I prefer to get the straight skinny from the hosting blog and the participating bloggers’ own blogs.
Looking forward to seeing everyone’s work this month!
:-)

I agree with Nigel. I have seen so many sad situations on fb. plus too many ads. Blogs, Flickr, Twitter and Instagram are quick and easy without the drama of fb. ( yes I know I am in several fb groups …. but I prefer other avenues of sharing art )

Sounds like the consensus is a strong no so far! I’m inclined not to do it, but I’m glad I asked! Feel free to continue to share opinions for and against today. Hope you’re having a creative day!

Leah, I created my own group for people taking a daily picture with their cell phones. Any AEDMers can join that one to share their phonepics. :)

We are here:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/DailyLifeOnTheGo/

I think it’s better to keep your website as the hub for this. I feel that Facebook is swallowing everything up and it would be a shame for your website to lose traffic because of that.

I agree with Suzanne and others. I hate the way FB has taken over. It’s very easy for people to end up excluded. Your website is open to everyone and the perfect place for us to keep up with what’s happening.

What a cutie pie with a pretty necklace. I love the constellations in your piece.

Okay -2 posts today: one picture and then one blog because I finally got my website sorted out (woohoo!). Now I’m all caught up and can proceed as usual. :)

I’m trying to post a new photo each day but no matter which image I choose, the site says it’s too large so I guess I’ll just keep posting the same abstract image each day that the site will accept as the right size in the hopes that you all can access my site!

I noticed that the same message appears when you click on my name or picture that was there yesterday but if you click on “blog” in the header, you will see the post for each day. Never had this problem in past years..hmmm…any suggestions?

I, too, would prefer not to have a Facebook page for this. Seems great as is, very easy to see all the thumbnails and choose the artist. Don’t fix it if it’s not broke! Keep up the good work, it’s an awesome challenge.

I love this initiative! So much fun and creative work to see!
Happy Creating everybody. :-)

did i mess up by linking in twice to this post? once was my post on November 1st and once the post on November 2nd.

have a great weekend, everyone!

So cool!!

Hello. I have been offline too long. I am back and making an effort to do art everyday. I have changed blog sites – still blogspot but a new blog. Hope to post regularly, maybe not everyday but I will DO ART EVERYDAY! Thanks for the community. I don’t need an FB page will go with your final decision. If you do a FB page, I will add myself in. ag

I’m not on FaceBook so this site is plenty for me–thanks for asking!

Do you really want us to comment on the day’s post every time we use the Mr. Linky gadget, or have I misunderstood something? (I’m wondering primarily because I’m seeing a lot more icons than comments.) Learning curve continues! See you tomorrow!

I don’t care for the FB page, either. I like this setup you have going!

Just signed up for a journal a day in November. Have a couple to post pictures of but I am just signing up for blogger and will have to learn the ropes there first lol. Can’t wait to see everyone’s journal.

Hi everyone! I’m doing AEDM for the 5th year this year, and I am thrilled to be participating. I worked on these journal pages over the course of two days so posted as Days 1 & 2. I kind of like that AEDM is not on FB, it makes it special and unique!
