Day 24: Story Time at Sea

November 24th, 2013, Comments (6)

This piece was created for a friend's little girl's purple and gray room. This little girl loves books, so I thought I'd have her reading a story in a boat, with a whale listening on. The gold stripes show up in this picture a lot more than they do in real life, where they're much more subtle. It's 12"x12" on panel with acrylic and ink.

While I was starting this piece, Annabelle was trying really hard to trace her hands, which was super cute.

Day 23: Let Her Sleep

November 23rd, 2013, Comments (3)

And here's part two! I did a sketch of this earlier in the year and have been wanting to paint it for Annabelle's big girl room. My little girl may not like sleep, but I do believe she can move mountains. :)

Annabelle's creations today included block towers and one block "office", complete with desks and a "quiet room" like the new office space her daddy is moving into this winter. Haha.

Art Every Day Month, Day 23

Today is the 23rd day of Art Every Day Month. This week flew! I hope you all have a wonderfully creative weekend!

I usually post my art at the end of the day, but every morning there will be a check-in post like this one, where you can share your work whenever you're ready to do so.

The box below is a widget that I provide each day as an optional place to share a direct link (blog post or flickr image) to that day's creation. If you don't have something to share today, don't worry about it! Share when you can. In the meantime, be sure to check out what other participants are creating! Check out the links from today's post and the links on the participant page for instant inspiration. You can also see lots of great work in the AEDM flickr group. Feel free to share your work there too!

If you use the widget, please link to a specific blog post, not your main blog page or website (or you can link to a specific image if you're linking to a flickr page.) For example, in a past AEDM, for day one I linked to my first post: http://creativeeveryday.com/creativeeveryday/2010/11/the-owl-and-the-pussycat.html instead of my main blog page: http://www.creativeeveryday.com. This makes it easier for people to find your work. Mr. Linky automatically asks for a comment, leave one if you'd like (I love to hear from you!), but it's not required. It may take a little time for your image and/or link to appear. If you don't see it right away, check back in a few minutes. If you're having trouble with the sharing a thumbnail, try putting the url of your latest post in the url box. Then, when it gives you a few options for sharing an image, choose the "pick an image from your site" option. From there, you should be able to select an image of your latest work or some other image from your site. It may take a minute for your image to appear here on the blog.

If you want to share, but don't have a specific page to link to, feel free to use the comments section of this post to share what you're working on. If you're posting less than once a day, no problem! Simply use the latest one of these posts to share a link to your creation. For some, it's too much to keep up with posting every day, but don't let that get you down. Do it if you can and if you can't, just keep on creating, that's the most important part. If you get off track and miss a few days of creating, don't let that freeze you up either. Just pick up where you left off and keep moving forward. One foot in front of the other. You are making your life a more creative one with each step.

How to participate in Art Every Day Month: Check out the AEDM info page for all the details, instructions on how to get involved, and then visit the participant sign up page before you use the link widget to share your creations. The Information page also has instructions about how to use the widget below, if you're having any trouble with it.

Survival Guide: If you feel like you could use some more support, prompts, and motivation to keep going throughout the month, check out the Art Every Day Month Survival Guide.

Twitter: If you're on Twitter (I'm on there as @leah_art), I'll be using the hashtag #aedm2013 to mark Art Every Day Month tweets. It helps to find others who are tweeting about AEDM!

Instagram: You can use the same #aedm2013 hashtag if you're playing along on Instagram.

Creative Every Day Challenge participants: If you're not doing Art Every Day Month, you can still use any of the daily Art Every Day Month check-in posts to leave your weekly link. Feel free to keep checking in on Mondays or post whenever you have something new to share!

Day 22: Work in Progress

November 22nd, 2013, Comments (1)

Today, I've got a work in progress! I didn't want to rush the last part, so I'm stopping here for now and will finish the second part tomorrow. The first bit is acrylic paint and ink on a 12"x12" canvas.

Annabelle is feeling much better today, can you tell? haha. We spent the morning making some thank you notes for a couple awesome friends.

Day 21: Wish I Might

November 21st, 2013, Comments (7)

Just a little piece today. Both Annabelle and I are sick. Yuck! She's been a great sport, but not a lot of time for art-making today. She actually did manage to sit and draw pages of circles in her little sketchbook. So cute. :-)

My little piece is Inktense watercolor pencils on watercolor paper. Some folks have asked me if I'll be selling the pieces I'm making this month. I will for most of them (prints when available and prints). I've already sold one. There are a couple in my shop already, along with my 2014 calendar. But if there's something you really want a print of before it goes in the shop, just shoot me an email and I'll make arrangements with you privately!

Day 20: i carry your heart with me

November 20th, 2013, Comments (5)

Today, a little piece done with Inktense watercolor pencils on watercolor paper. Inspired by the ee cummings poem:

i carry your heart with me (i carry it in
my heart) i am never without it (anywhere
i go you go, my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing, my darling)

i fear
no fate (for you are my fate, my sweet) i want
no world (for beautiful you are my world, my true)
and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows
higher than soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart (i carry it in my heart)

A wanted to try out the watercolor pencils too, so I wet a small piece of watercolor paper and let her draw. She loved it!

Day 19: Worst Hiders Club

November 19th, 2013, Comments (2)

If you follow me on Facebook or Instagram, then you've probably seen my "Worst Hiders Club" pictures of Annabelle and her friends hiding terribly. It's really funny. She will hide behind a small couch pillow, with a box on her head, only halfway behind a tree, etc... Today, I took the idea to paint. When I showed it to Annabelle and explained the inspiration, she said, "Oh, what pretty shoes!" haha.

Annabelle had art class today and it was tree day! She spent half the class dancing in circles with her friends, but she did enjoy painting and stamping and having a messy, good time.

Today is the 19th day of Art Every Day Month. Some days it's tougher to fit in the creativity than others. Give yourself permission to do something small on those tough days.

I usually post my art at the end of the day, but every morning there will be a check-in post like this one, where you can share your work whenever you're ready to do so.
