Art Every Day Month – Coming Soon!

October 17th, 2007

It's amazing to me how fast this year has flown by! I'm a bit flabbergasted by the fact that 2007 is quickly coming to a close. Eeks! And with this, we are quickly approaching the 5th year of Art Every Day Month. I started out this project five years ago as a challenge to myself to create some art every day for one month and post it on my blog. I was inspired by Nanowrimo and wanted to do something similar with art. and thus Art Every Day Month was born. Posting my art on the blog every day helped to keep me accountable and it was fun to share my creations. The following year, I invited people to join in with me and each year since I've had great groups of creative people committing themselves to more creativity for the month of November with me. I've met some fantabulous people through AEDM and I'm thrilled to have anyone who is interested, join in this year!

I keep the rules for AEDM really simple and very loose. I encourage people to make something every day, but my goal is to foster more creativity, so if you make just one piece of art per week or just one for the whole month, that's fine with me. The idea is to bring more creativity into your life, not to make you feel overwhelmed, pressured or guilt-stricken. Art is also loosely defined here. I mean art in the sense of anything creative, whether that be painting, drawing, knitting, sewing, cooking, decorating, photography, clay, jewelry-making or whatever! Because my focus is on mixed media art, I tend to work on drawing, painting, and collage and I challenge myself complete a piece of art or do some work on a larger piece every day and post an image of what I'm working on on my blog. You can see what I've worked on in past years by checking out the photo albums I have in the left-hand column of this blog. I'll start a new one for this year on November 1st. I'll also keep a list of bloggers participating this year in my sidebar, so that you can check in on what others are up to. And if there's an interest, I can also set up a flickr group for people to post their art for the day in a common space.

If you've already commented that you're interested in participating, thanks! I'll post all the links at the beginning of the month. If you've decided to join in, then leave a comment or pop me an email and let me know.

I'm still unwinding from wedding madness. I used the word husband in public for the first time today which nearly made me giggle. Heh. I need to come with a good name to replace fiansor now. I've been playing around with "hubba-bubba" in person, but that feels a little long. Hmm, maybe the hub-bub or the h.b.. Oh, I don't know. It'll come to me. :-)

Alas, this year I don’t think I’ll be playing along. I want to, but if I try my head will asplode.

You could always refer to him as “My Old Man.” ;)

You are too cute. I’m definitely in for AEDM!

It sounds great, Leah, but I’m going to opt out for NaNoWriMo. I’ll be looking at what you all do for inspiration! (Still can’t believe you’re blogging already…) Love, O

Hey Leah,
I participated last year. It was a catalyst for me to really start thinking of myself as an artist. I am an entirely different person than 12 months ago. This will be fun … count me in.

Hey dearest,

I so admire your AEDM. I wish I could do that but won’t commit to it just now. I’ve actually just started (as in yesterday) NaBloPoMo. I had neglected my blog for SO long that I figured a challenge to post there daily was in order. Wish me luck!

Speaking of fostering and encouraging creativity… I find that swaps are really good for that, especially some of the ones I’ve found that are for the holidays. Many swaps require that you MAKE something for your partner so that really forces me to think in a creative way. I love it.

Have you done any more swaps lately?

Have a wonderful Thursday!

xo,

Karen Beth :)

Oh, goodie another challenge to sign up for! I’m also doing NaBloPoMo.com to get me into the habit of posting on my blog. I don’t think I can jump from doing one piece of art a month to one piece of art a day but I’m sure interested in trying.

Are the comments the official sign up? If so I’m in!

I still enjoy saying “this is my husband” in public but i have to say the first month or so was the best. My nick name for him is hubby and sometimes he calls me wifey, not too original but we like it.

congratulations! you looked absolutely gah-geous! hope you are having a blast honeymooning it up :) xo, mindy

I am totally up for the challenge, count me in!

This sounds great! Please count me in too!

*Paula jumps up and down in excitement* Count me in! :)

What a stroke of luck… I just found your blog from a link I found on another blog which I found from a link on another blog… and so on. But I’d LOVE to take part in AEDM.

My husband was just signing up for NaNoWriMo, and I was wishing artists had something similar. So count me in.

BTW, beautiful wedding photos. Congrats!

I don’t have a blog, but have thought several times of beginning one. Maybe AEDM would be a good way to get it going? At least I’d start with a focus, which I haven’t seemed to find on my own.

I have been thinking about art everyday month alot lately. That is when I met you!
I am definately in.
I plan to post art everyday and add it to my Etsy store…I haven’t really focused on the shop since I opened it and with the holidays coming I thought this would be the perfect time to pay it some attention.

Thanks for doing this again Leah.
XO,
Melba

I sit here now thinking that Creative Every Day was the first blog I ever started reading and getting inspired by. I’m also cognizant of the fact I will be moving from RI to NY in November but……

This is exactly what I need; a way to reconnect with me, my creativity and my vulnerability. Plus, the challenge of creating while moving and job searching seems like a great motivator (I have an overwhelmingly odd sense of motivation). I am curious how my art will transpire through the stressful changes in my life.

Count…me….in! :)

In our house, it’s “The Wifey” and “The Husb.” But you have to say Husb with a Barry White voice or else it’s null and void.
Oh, and you already know I’m in. :-)

Better yet, since you once had a “fiansor” you could now have a “husbandee.” Just a funny thought.

My dear, you can count me in. This will be a challenge, but I’m up for it!! xo

I love your AEDM – though I might have to make it “Art Every Week” or even month(!) instead of every day, for me – I’m determined to break through that 50,000 word finishline this year – but I’ll definitely be looking forward to seeing what you and the others create every day, cheering you on.

Hubba-bubba, heehee…Don’t know if you’ve taken on a new name, but has anyone called you Mrs. WhateverYourNewNameIs, yet? That one floored me – “um, are you speaking to me? Oh wait, that’s right – yeah, that’s me!”

I’m so happy for you! Enjoy your new wedded bliss~xOx

Count me in on AEDM–although I’m doing NaNoWriMo, too–I may not have time to do anything else but write and paint! Love it–

As for the fiansor’s new title–there’s a blogger that uses ‘Beloved,’ which is from Rudyard Kipling. I like that–such a poetic sound.

Oh, please sign me up. This will fit in so perfectly with what I’ve already planned for Nov!

Will you by chance have a blinkie or graphic we can display on our blogs?

I call my husband Hubs, THE Hubs if he’s been a bad boy…;)

Thanks!

I think I’ve already said: count me in for AEDM, but just in case – count me in!

And for Husband, how about: spousand (spouse/husband)?

My first marriage was so bad that it took me YEARs to use the words wife and husband….and sometimes it still sounds funny (except I use it so much writing since it’s the perfect one word descriptor)

Oh – count me in darlin! I need a good kick in the pants. LOL. and as for nicknames…hubba bubba makes me sing the song hubba bubba bubble gummmmmmm (which dates me for sure LOL). Mine is my hubly-dubly-do-dad. LOL. Don’t ask. No wonder I like the “Mr. Barky vonschnauser” commercial!

Leah! :) I am here FINALLY catching up on your blog and WOW!!!! :) I’m sorry I was away for so long but it is so much fun to come back for a visit and see all these beautiful wedding photos! You looked stunning (oh, that dress is incredible!) and you look so very, very happy. I am happy for you. :)

I’m looking forward to joining you on your art every day project. I might not be able to do it to such as extremes as I was doing it before, but these days I’m finding that taking time to do something creative every day really helps me to keep my heart centered. I’ve been wanting to play around with collage for some time now and definitely want to try to incorporate that into the month’s worth of art making.

I love ya, dear Leah and it is so good to read all your words and be inspired by so much LOVE!! :)

big hugs coming your way!
j.

I am giving this a try dear Leah. Should be fun. I am going to do the chipboard pieces I think. It’s probably all I can take for right now. Did I mention I am moving this week? And I have an oral presentation due this week? OY!

Life is good and OH how I love you and the hubby. So yummy and sweet. Can’t wait to meet again! I have something in the works, I laid it out on paper yesterday!

Wee oh.

Tam

I love that you are doing this. And last year I read about it after it was over. I told myself then that I would participate this year… But now? I am scared to even think about it. I am so challenged to get art in once a week at this point, that I wonder how possible it would be to do this in a month filled with a 2 week road trip across the country and Thanksgiving, and work, and the Beloved trying to fit his things into my apartment??? Oi. I will sit with this, because I need it. But oi!

Ah ha, so you’re the one who started this! I actually think I might be able to do this with photography and want to play along. Hooray for art! and Hubba Bubba is so funny and cute! haha!

Please count me in!

i am SO going to participate again!

This is one of my first blogs to visit as well. I think it would be awesome to do this! I especially like the lose rules of being creative every day…because my time is a little limited for full blown art work, but I deserve to be remember how much I love creating! Count me in!

Hi!

Hi I’d like to join in. I read abt your art every day month via Elizabeth’s blog where I am just finishing up a month of drawings in The Big Draw. Thanks. Boy you will have a lot of participants!! and happy marriage to you.

Hi Leah,
I’m in! Although I probably won’t post everyday…I will definitely work on something every day (jewelry or knitting/crocheting project).. I’ve been looking forward to this ever since you told me about it months ago! Let the creativity begin! : )
