Which Way the Wind Blows
November 24th, 2008
Today's artwork is, "Which Way the Wind Blows." I'd created the collage part earlier and put it under some books to dry where I totally forgot about it until I rediscovered it last night. The design in her dress is a print from a stamp I carved earlier this year and then incorporated into this collage. I went over it today with acrylic paint and ink to created this wintry scene. Again, there are lots of repeating circles, in her dress, in the bicycle and in the moon. Even the woman's face is a bit round. I think I'm drawn to circles because they are a feminine shape to me and they represent the cycles that are everywhere, in our bodies, in nature, etc...
I've got a new piece up in my art shop today, the "Lollipop Trees" is now available as an original or print. And don't forget the free shipping offer I've got going on through December 15th! You just need to type holiday08 in the coupon section during checkout.

The print on her dress is eye catching. Trees… standing tall.

This is an absolutely stunning creation. I have become a seriously big fan of your talent. The bicycle watermark in this one creates some food for thought. Hugs from Desire

I love this triple goddess-y girl. I have been visiting your site for these brief glimpses of inspiration for a little while now, and want to thank you for your beautiful creations that manage to transport me a little every time. If I visit enough I am thinking I will get over my own fear of picking up pencil or pastel or brush and I will begin to create my own pictures. Thanks and blessings.

I like the way the little birds have got ahold of her hair. Perhaps an invitation to fly away with them?

Leah, I love how the birds appear throughout most of your paintings as a consistent element! As I look at her face, I wonder, what is she thinking about or looking at over yonder? hmm? Serene scene! I love circles too! Very beautiful painting )

I like the triplicity of it–three circles on her dress, three trees, three strands of hair, three birds, even three planes (sky, background, foreground); except for the bicycle, which is a two, and which I think might be why Desire above picks up on it as “food for thought.” I could spin tales as to what she’s thinking and what it all means, like one does for dreams.
Very very cool!

“I think I’m drawn to circles because they are a feminine shape to me and they represent the cycles that are everywhere, in our bodies, in nature, etc…”
Oh, oh! Bad pun alert. “Cycles,” as in, *bicycles?* Funny what our unconscious minds will do, isn’t it?

oh – this reminds me that, among all the other things I keep finding on AEM browsing, I want to make my own stamps. I started around my bday (that was March) – asked for all kinds of supplies and didn’t get any and then lost all my info. Sigh. Try again (too late for holidays, already have my lists out to kids and husband – who I want to help me set up for bead making. Yet another thing I really really want to learn!)

Leah,
i love how your images speak to me like the first page of a book.. i see this and think, “what’s up with the ghost bicycle in the lake?” and, “will the three birds take her on an adventure, or will they pull her hair further and further away until she has no choice but to follow along?”
maybe it’s just my brain, but i seem to always think, “Book!” when i see your paintings.
