Creative Every Day Theme for September: Time

August 28th, 2012

At the end of each month I will announce the totally optional theme for the following month. For the month of August 2012, the theme will be Time.

As always, this month's theme for the Creative Every Day Challenge is totally optional. Use it if it inspires you, continue being creative every day in your own way if it doesn't, or do something in between. You can sign up for the 2012 Creative Every Day Challenge anytime. More info can be found here and the sign-up page is here.

I'll be posting about the theme throughout the month on the blog to help keep you inspired. You can use the posts here for jumping off points or interpret the theme in your own creative way. If you need some suggestions, here are a few ideas to get you started. You could:

  • *Play with the idea of the time of your life in a piece of art or writing.
  • *Work with a time limit. Set the timer for 10 minutes, and create something.
  • *Focus on what your favorite time of day to create is. Why is that?
  • *Place the image of clocks or calendars in your work.
  • *Write about your challenges in making time to create. What are some simple solutions to those challenges?
  • *Is there a time period that you wish you could visit? Use that time as your inspiration.

How to use the CED themes:

If you're feeling creatively stuck or blocked at any point during the month, use the theme as a source of inspiration to get you moving. Feel free to focus on the theme in your creative activities for the entire month or as much as you'd like.

Using the theme is entirely optional for CED participants. Use it if it inspires you, ignore it if it doesn't. I'll be sharing posts throughout the month around the theme (among other things) to get you thinking about how to incorporate it into your life. I'd love to hear how you use the theme in your creative world.

And have fun with it!

Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma - which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of other's opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary. ~Steve Jobs

Ooh…something to ponder! Thanks!

Oooh! Do I see faces in the trees ~ wonderful creating ~ Carol (A Creative Harbor)

Good thought provoking theme, Leah.

Love this Leah! It’s captivating.

Hello Leah, your “Time” creation is beautiful, the colors and effect are really great, love this!

I see the faces too, Carol!! It’s a magical piece Leah and it told me a wonderful story to go with your fab quote from Steve. You are so clever, forever admired by me.

I signed up for the Creative Every Day Challenge and linked it to my blog! So excited. I did this years ago with you and ready to get back!

Synchronicity :) I have just been writing about time and tree roots for a blog I am preparing, then I click over here and find your beautiful illustration.

I’m smiling because I am just returning to blogging and trying to finally figure out time-management, so this is a timely theme to work with ;o)

I decided recently to make friends with time — we’ve felt like adversaries so often — and I’ve just moved to a new (and magical!) home, and just found this site through buying The Unconventional Guide to Art and Money today and beginning to read it … so it’s the perfect time to join a throng of Every Day Artists, and … it is THE perfect theme for me to begin with. Thank you everyone, for the pull and the push of this.

How lovely! TIME provides us with so many opportunities in connecting with so many things at this Season. I love your artwork, the colours of upcoming Autumn/Fall in your Trees are just beautiful, and are so relevant to the theme of this time of year.
