Day 2: I love you to the moon and back

November 2nd, 2013, 13 Comments

This one is for my Annabelle on the day of her half birthday (she's 2 and a half today!) I say this to her a lot, so I thought this might be something for her future "big girl" room. It's 8"x*8" on canvas.

Annabelle did her art for the day with lots of big scribbles on a placemat and coaster (and perhaps a bit on the table) while we were at dinner tonight. :-)

Art Every Day Month, Day 2

Today is the 2nd day of Art Every Day Month! I hope you had a great first day and are excited about the month ahead!

****

***QUESTION FOR ALL***  A few people have asked me about creating a Facebook group for Art Every Day Month. I've resisted the idea because I like having a central place where people can share and find each other's work (plus it's another thing to manage), but I also want to make it easy for everyone to participate. Would you like/use a Facebook group for Art Every Day Month as well as this?

***

I usually post my art at the end of the day, but every morning there will be a check-in post like this one, where you can share your work whenever you're ready to do so.

The box below is a widget that I provide each day as an optional place to share a direct link (blog post or flickr image) to that day's creation. If you don't have something to share today, don't worry about it! Share when you can. In the meantime, be sure to check out what other participants are creating! Check out the links from today's post and the links on the participant page for instant inspiration. You can also see lots of great work in the AEDM flickr group. Feel free to share your work there too!

If you use the widget, please link to a specific blog post, not your main blog page or website (or you can link to a specific image if you're linking to a flickr page.) For example, in a past AEDM, for day one I linked to my first post: http://creativeeveryday.com/creativeeveryday/2010/11/the-owl-and-the-pussycat.html instead of my main blog page: http://www.creativeeveryday.com. This makes it easier for people to find your work.  If you want to share, but don't have a specific page to link to, feel free to use the comments section of this post to share what you're working on. If you're posting less than once a day, no problem! Simply use the latest one of these posts to share a link to your creation. For some, it's too much to keep up with posting every day, but don't let that get you down. Do it if you can and if you can't, just keep on creating, that's the most important part. If you get off track and miss a few days of creating, don't let that freeze you up either. Just pick up where you left off and keep moving forward. One foot in front of the other. You are making your life a more creative one with each step.

How to participate in Art Every Day Month: Check out the AEDM info page for all the details, instructions on how to get involved, and then visit the participant sign up page before you use the link widget to share your creations. The Information page also has instructions about how to use the widget below, if you're having any trouble with it.

Survival Guide: If you feel like you could use some more support, prompts, and motivation to keep going throughout the month, check out the Art Every Day Month Survival Guide.

Twitter: If you're on Twitter (I'm on there as @leah_art), I'll be using the hashtag #aedm2013 to mark Art Every Day Month tweets. It helps to find others who are tweeting about AEDM!

Instagram: You can use the same #aedm2013 hashtag if you're playing along on Instagram.

Creative Every Day Challenge participants: If you're not doing Art Every Day Month, you can still use any of the daily Art Every Day Month check-in posts to leave your weekly link.

Day 1: The Search

November 1st, 2013, 21 Comments

Hooray! Art Every Day Month has begun! I hope everyone had a good experience today. If not, tomorrow is a new day. For today's art, I had to squeeze my painting into a short nap, then finish up in the evening. I let this one just happen and here's what came out. It's called "The Search." I like the constellations, which were a sudden inspiration that I enjoyed running with. The piece is 8"x8" with acrylic and ink on panel.

The cutest thing happened today. I was out running errands with my 2.5 year old daughter, Annabelle and told her for the first time about Art Every Day Month. Her response: "I want to do art every day too!" Haha! I thought we might do AEDM together someday, but wasn't quite expecting it so soon! We are definitely creative every day together, it's impossible not to be, but to consciously think about creating each day together might be an interesting challenge. I'm not sure we'll have time each day to do and document something, but we will as often as we can. Today we made a necklace. She picked the order of the beads and strung the round ones. She was quite pleased with her creation. :-)

This weekly check-in post is a place for Creative Every Day Challenge participants to share their creative activities. This check-in runs through the 31st. Starting November 1st, there will be a daily check-in for Art Every Day Month (AEDM).

Join in the Challenge: You can sign-up for the 2013 Challenge here!

Ways to share: Once you've signed up, you can leave a comment on this post and/or use the "Mr. Linky" widget below to link to a blog post(s) about your creative activities during the days of 10/28/13 - 10/31/13.

The widget below is an optional method of sharing your creativity that makes it easier for others to check out what you're up to. You can use it to link to a blog post (or posts) or flickr image during the week listed. Or if you have a bunch of posts and don't want to link to all of them, you can link to your main blog page once. Do it in a way that makes sense and is fun for you! If you're unsure about how to use the widget, check out the "How to use the Mr. Linky widget" section on the Creative Every Day Challenge page. (If you're reading this in a RSS reader or email subscription, you will not see the "Mr. Linky widget", so click on over to the blog to use it.) If the Mr. Linky widget is missing from this blog post, it's probably a problem with their server and it will come back as soon as it's fixed. You can always leave your link in the comments. There is sometimes a slight delay in your link/image showing up in the Mr. Linky widget, so if you don't see it immediately, check back in a little bit.

You can also take advantage of the great CED flickr group to post your images and see what others are up to. If you're on Twitter or Instagram you can use the hashtag #CED2013!

Prepping for Art Every Day Month

October 16th, 2013, 7 Comments

Art Every Day Month is right around the corner, starting on November first and running for 30 wonderful days of creating. I want to remind you that this is a low-key challenge, so if you start and fall flat, you can pick yourself up and get back to it. Or if you find the challenge late, no worries, start where you are.

I also want to remind you that I define art in the broadest sense. Your daily art might be a painting, or the beginning of one, or it might be a photo, a song, knitting, cooking, chalk drawings with your children, sculpture, poems on napkins, art journaling, crafting, dancing, etc...

People have written to me asking how they'll share their work and how they'll see the work of others. The easiest way is to come here (creativeeveryday.com) every day and look at the daily check-in post. There, people will be sharing a link (to their blog, website, flickr image, etc) to what they've worked on that day. Or if they don't have a place like this to share, they can talk about what they're up to in the comments.

If you've joined in and are worried that you need some extra support, motivation or a daily prompt, then you can sign up for the Survival Guide, a private daily blog with prompts, encouragement, inspiration and a weekly audio exercise.

And here's are some tips about getting ready for the month. Everyone will approach this differently. Some people like to have a project in mind they'll work on all month (like a large piece), or a specific act of creativity they'll do each day (1 photo each day), while others will do whatever they're inspired to do each day. I tend to go with the flow, but I also like to do some sketching sessions in advance, so on days when I'm feeling less than inspired, I already have some ideas ready that I'd like to explore further. And when those ideas aren't calling to me, I just begin and let my intuition be my guide. Some days the work is wonderful, some days it is not, it is all ok. What I have found is that the process of working every single day, is powerful and interesting things always come up. It's fun. And even more fun doing it with a group of people. So get excited, folks, this is going to be fun!

Pregnancy Loss and Remembrance Day

This is my painting, "Love, Loss, and Letting Go" which I'm sharing because today is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day. Sending love to my friends and family who have experienced a loss. It is an all too common and heartbreaking experience.
