Creative Every Day Check-In: January 11 – 17

January 11th, 2010

This weekly check-in post is a place for Creative Every Day Challenge participants to share their creative activities.

Join in the Challenge: You can sign up for the  2010 Creative Every Day Challenge anytime! Find out more and fill out the sign-up form here to join in!

Ways to share: Once you've signed up, you can leave a comment on this post and/or use the "Mr. Linky" widget below to link to a blog post(s) about your creative activities during the days of 1/11/10 - 1/17/10.

The widget below is an optional method of sharing your creativity that makes it easier for others to check out what you're up to. You can use it to link to a blog post (or posts) or flickr image during the week listed. Or if you have a bunch of posts and don't want to link to all of them, you can link to your main blog page once. Do it in a way that makes sense and is fun for you! If you're unsure about how to use the widget, check out the "How to use the Mr. Linky widget" section on the Creative Every Day Challenge page. (If you're reading this in a RSS reader or email subscription, you will not see the "Mr. Linky widget", so click on over to the blog to use it.)

You can also take advantage of the great CED flickr group to post your images and see what others are up to. If you're on Twitter, there's a growing Twitter list of CED participants and you can use the hashtag #CED2010 to help others find your Creative Every Day tweets!

Theme: The (totally optional) theme for January is Body. I'll be posting about the theme throughout the month and you can feel free to use it to inspire your creations, follow your own muse, or do some combination. You can find out more about this month's theme and some prompts to get you started with it here.

Happy Creating!

It's also helpful to realize that this very body that we have, that's sitting right here right now... with its aches and it pleasures... is exactly what we need to be fully human, fully awake, fully alive. ~Pema Chodron

I’m getting a late start, but better late than never.

Or so they say.

Looking forward to lots of fun and creativity with everyone!

posted some journal work

Happy new Year to you Leah!
I finally got around to making some art, to posting it and to be present. Love this months prompt, THE BODY.

Working on a few “body” ideas. I’m glad for this prompt as it gets me thinking in some new directions…

I did some clay working and journaling to get out of a negativity spiral. I hope you know how thankful I am for this area of encouragement.

i did a fantastic creativity workshop yesterday and am all filled with creative energy now. not sure what i will pour it into this week… want to take a bit of time to simply relax and play first, as i had been working really hard on getting the workshop set up last week.

had a whole day yesterday to play- what fun! nothing body related, but progress just the same….. happy monday!

I used a quote to inspire my work this week. I’m happy with the outcome and likely will try some of the other quotes that I found to spark ideas. Thanks for the great theme! My self esteem needed this.:-)

Are we supposed to post a direct link to each post? That’s what I did…. Just checking :)

This weeks post came about because I didn’t want to take down my makeshift “studio” after I set it up for other reasons.

It kind of fits with the body theme too…vintage camera “bodies” that were used in the past to create “bodies” of work. Um yeah, I meant to do that :)

Hey all! So glad you’re having fun with the challenge and the theme!

Marsanne, I prefer a direct links to a blog post, but if you have a whole bunch of posts, you either leave multiple direct links or you can just leave your main blog link once, whatever is easiest for you!

I can’t believe it is already January 11th! I love this theme and have oodles of juicy creative expressive processes on body metaphors and body image. And, that is just scratching the surface. I’ll try to share and post as much as I can before leaving for my Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain workshop at Esalen at the end of the month! Woo Hoo! In the meantime, here is an expressive arts process focused on the feet!

Will work on this, this week. :-)

I am feeling extraordinarily inspired here in the second week of the new year! I was privileged with a unique opportunity to photograph bald eagles at our farm the other day. I was thinking about attending one of the Eagle Days events in the state of Missouri this month, but looks like I’m having my own! I am involved in a 365 photo project, and it’s causing me to ramp up the creative thinking from the angle of thinking about taking a picture every day. I think the theme of body is great to start the new year, as I am doing a body of work around images this year! Perfect!

I am loving your project Leah and though I will keep the “body” theme as option for this week, I’m fully engage each day in the creative process of photography, writing and painting. This week is focused on further exploration of rendering photographs in oil and ink.

warm regards,

Terrill

p.s. Late Friday I received news that a painting had been published in the River Poets Quarterly Journal. I am celebrating on my blog post today:)

I haven’t had time to finish the couple of things I really wanted to post here – some colored pencil pictures I’ve been working on. But I did put up my second installment of the ‘Adventures of Mister Sinister’ (my family’s pet mystery snail.) Hopefully next week I’ll get my art posted. Now I’m off to check out everyone’s awesome work.

heART swap is up over on mother henna… I guess exploring the heart as part of the body would fit the theme :) All are welcome and invited if anyone is interested in swapping ATCs. Slowly coming back to full speed here, so there will be more creativity in the coming weeks… what a new year already! miracles, k-

I am turning 54 this year and my body has changed a lot and although I am a small person, I am no longer 90lbs dripping wet – ah those were the days or were they? I have curves now – Yippee skippy! I love vintage and historical clothing. I love Anthroplogie’s clothing style, too! So, I am embarking on a journey to find clothes that are comfortable, stylish without looking like mutton dressed as lamb and yet have my quirky love of vintage clothing worked. Take a look at my outfit I made for a 1930’s party. What do you think? Cheers!

hi leah! i’m still dwelling on the mind, doodling out little mixed messages and playing brain games with myself :)

Today’s entry was a real mashup of all kinds of stuff – and mostly because I’m learning so much from all the CED folks out there!

I have been playing with both pan pastel and watercolors. As a beginner both of these mediums are challenging to me and I have more failures than successes, but I will keep practicing, and enjoy the daily dose of creativity

I keep forgetting to submit my link…love to see how the list has grown since I last checked in though!

Good Lord, is it Monday again! This has been a really fun week for me, guys. Thank you so much for this. Somehow I lost Wednesday’s entry but I did two on Thursday. Truthfully I probably do ten everyday. :) To all of you late starters, welcome! We need to help and encourage each other to stick it out!

I’m drawing my way through my 4B pencils and MsKitty’s adventures. Cool and congrats to all who are participating!

Oh, I forgot to say: I’m working on a body of work which is MsKitty posing with various objects..

Last night’s activity is up on my blog now. The article I read in the beginning of the evening inspired me to the little sketch. Check out my blog if you have a moment.

This is the first time I have joined in with this challenge and I really enjoyed the theme ‘Body’ and relating it to some form of altered art :)

I have uploaded a few photos onto my blog, so hopefully if you have a spare moment you will have a peep and let me know what you think – thank you :)

Looking forward to February’s theme!!

Created something to wear on the body. Also the piece symbolizes our body and soul and how God can restore our beauty.

Still getting the hang of this!! hope Im doing it right, firstly thankyou Leah for your comment on my Christmas Decoration post, Its a bit daunting when your starting out, wondering..”is anyone reading this??” but Im loving it, my new thought process is ‘is it blogable?’

Anywho I have spent the day making something for my BODY in the form of a food, it was a lovely day, and Im enjoying looking at things differently, with a more creative eye, my photography is getting better by the day.
I am inspired to do something else so will post again.

Thanks Leah

This is a first time for me, i just started today and i love the theme. I´m trying to be much more concious of my body, its needs and sensations whenever i can remember. Eat with conciousness exploring the feelings that come with every bite, when i take a shower and so on.
I haven´t post anything yet but i´ll do it.
Thanks for the inspiration, i´ll be around.
Hugs and blessings!

Hi Leah,

Thank you very much for this wonderful idea! You have gathered an amazingly talented group of people together! I am so impressed by the astounding creativity and originality. Checking in to see what else is new is fascinating!

And the experience of actually creating something everyday is one I have never experienced before. I am learning much.

And the Theme -BODY- the creativity that has been generated by just thinking about that word is surprising. I’m having fun playing with that word! Others seem to be enjoying it too!

All the best, EVA

hi leah!

Well, my BODY is fighting a Sinus inflammation… made a painting to go along whit it…

Leah thank you for all your hard work!

Having a lot of fun with this! It is great being motivated to work on my stuff :-)

Steady as she goes, I have been making art of some kind every single day :D And I finally got around to making some ‘Body’ art (well, it was an ATC that I painted with my fingers. Literally, it has my fingers, in orange paint, on it. :D ) Everyday I can’t wait to get in the studio and create something. This has been a wonderful experience so far, and I imagine that it will only get better as the year goes on.

Getting a late start, but looking forward to lots of creative ideas and “eye candy” to inspire me.

Rain and wind and dark gloom– that’s been this week in weather. It is a great time to be creative. I’m looking forward to finishing creative projects and making some fun kind of cake for may Dad’s birthday. :) cheers all!

Did a bit of something each day until today. Had to do worky type things, but it’s still early

Love the theme for the month! I haven’t really made much ‘body’ art but it definitely is a topic I’d love to explore in my art. This week I haven’t managed to do a whole lot, but I did write up a newsletter (one of my goals for 2009 and beyond was to write a newsletter each month by the 15th of each month). So far, I’ve done that every month since last July when I started! Here’s a blog post that I wrote that mirrors this month’s newsletter (you can subscribe monthly by clicking the link to the right of my blog).

this week, spend more time playing with mandalas while waiting at various places with my kids, and had fun with hand tracing inspired by the Hamsa. I love this theme and would like to try it again.

A little more body work? This upcoming week, I would like to explore more physical movement and revisit some energy work – start getting into the subtle body.

Well, better late than never. Hope I”m doing this right. I finally made myself a flickr account and uploaded a photo of a sketch, so I’m feeling pretty proud of myself. My big step today was hanging a piece of my own artwork in my home. It’s frightening. I really enjoy reading all your posts Leah. I’ve lurked for a year or so. Thanks, Anne
