Art Every Day Month Check-In: November 5th
November 5th, 2009
Today is the 5th day of Art Every Day Month. I'm so thrilled by the way everyone is creating and connecting and sharing. I wish I could visit each of you every day, but there's so much great creating going on, I can't see everything. I know we're all busy creating, but when you can, please visit a few folks who leave their links below. Maybe visit a mix of people you know and people you don't. Spreading the love helps us all stay motivated and inspired!
The box below is a widget that I provide each day as an optional place to share a direct link (blog post or flickr image) to that day's creation. If you don't have something to share today, don't worry about it! Share when you can. In the meantime, be sure to check out what other participants are creating! Check out the links from today's post and the links in the sidebar for instant inspiration. You can also see lots of great work in the AEDM flickr group. Feel free to share your work there too!
If you use the widget, please link to a specific blog post (or specific image if you're linking to a flickr page or other website) instead of your main blog page or website. If you want to share, but don't have a specific page to link to, feel free to use the comments section of this post to share what you're working on. If you're posting less than once a day, no problem! Simply use the latest one of these posts to share a link to your creation. For some, it's too much to keep up with posting every day, but don't let that get you down. Do it if you can and if you can't, just keep on creating, that's the most important part. If you get off track and miss a few days of creating, don't let that freeze you up either. Just pick up where you left off and keep moving forward. One foot in front of the other. You are making your life a more creative one with each step.
If you're new to Art Every Day Month, check out the AEDM info page for all the details, then send me an email to sign-up before you use the link widget to share your creations. (If that email link isn't working, you can email me at leah at bluetreeartgallery.com)
Instructions: Please see the Art Every Day Month Instructions post if you have any confusion about how to post your link or how to sign up.
Twitter: Are you participating in AEDM and you're on Twitter too? I'm on there as @leah_art and I've been using the hashtag #aedm to mark Art Every Day Month tweets. I also started a Twitter list for AEDM which can help you easily find Twitter folks who are participating. If you're not on the Twitter list yet and would like to be, send me a DM.

Today’s post is about second chances. After my intention to draw a leaf and post it to AEDM a few days ago was blown to hell by life’s unexpected turns, I revisited the leaf drawing and successfully posted. So what if it was two days late. I did it, and that’s what matters. And more importantly, I sketched with my number 6B pencil again after a 25 year hiatus. Tough self-sabotaging negative self-talk. Read about how I overcame my gremlin.

This challenge is so great. Why is it we know what is good for us and makes us feel good, but we don’t do it? I know just going to my crafting area makes me feel good to see all the materials and colors, but I go for days or weeks on end without going down to my area and wonder why I am feeling blah. Duh! I am not sure how creative all of my entries are, but I do know I am in a much happier state of mind since I have been doing this challenge and it is affecting all the different pieces of my life. Thanks Leah.

Hi all. Today’s quote was so timely. AEDM is helping me realize how much creating art soothes my soul. It is ESSENTIAL. Yesterday as I was coming home on the subway from my acupunture appointment, I began writing in my AEDM journal about rituals of release (my homework from my life coach). My journal entry became a blueprint for my evening smudging and yoga practice. The journal entry also led to a impromptu six-word memoir writing experience. My six word memoirs made me giggle. They were verbal art. They also helped me release some thoughts I had been holding onto. By the time I got home, I was feeling freer. My smile was bright. My eyes focused on leaves. I even collected one to use in my journal today or tomorrow. I might just paste it in and write a six-word memoir for it. Now that whole experience reminded me how important it is to leat creativity flow in my daily life. It is essential. Thanks all for reading my words. Enjoy your AEDM journey.

Love the quote – without creativity we do just exist.
It is so uplifting to visit everyone’s blogs and know there are all these others who are creating and involved! Wow!

Leah, I forget how important it is to be surrounded by other people who are excited about making. Thanks for creating a community that I’m excited to be in. My husband, Tom, notices I’m getting blog love. That’s exciting too, and definitely a bonus I wasn’t expecting.

Link to blog about Day #3 and #4. I am having a good time with this. It is both demanding, inspiring and creative all at once. I think it is going to be a good thing. I have met some great fellow artists so far online and I enjoy the supportive community.

I’m really loving this, Leah! Even today with my dang migraine, it was soothing to make some digital images. What a great creative community you’ve created!

Can I just tell you how wonderful it is to be able to draw for the sake of drawing? And to draw what I draw in the way I draw it among people who rejoice in the act of creating rather than judging the work?
All about the process, baby! The product’s fab, but getting there is the real joy for me, and I’m sure for most of you out there too.
Thanks and gratitude to all of you.

I just started this yesterday and already I’m thinking man, this is impossible! But it did impell me to move along on something I’ve been working on (conceptually at least, and the background was painted). I can’t say I’m completely happy with it yet, but it’s a post anyhow. This will force me to think creatively in the midst of everything else like visits to kids and grandkids, holidays, etc.
It’s incredible to see how many people participate in this. What a great idea and how nice to feel part of a community. Sometimes we feel a little isolated here in Bakersfield, CA, even though we do have a thriving arts community.

Thanks for help my keep my pace going! This is a great idea. It’s like an old art teacher would say to me “Draw, Draw, Draw!”

Hurray! Finished my first crocheted clothing piece! I hope everyone else is having as much fun as I am.

I’m stillworking on figuring out a crocheted lace edging for pillowcases, but I’m enjoying a different aspect of this challenge…being more aware of what I do daily that is part of creativity; planning, meeting with arty peeps, etc.

Today was good day. Everything felt great.
It’s because of days like today that I love art.
