Day 6, Traveling Muses in the Forest

November 6th, 2013, Comments (11)

Another intuitive piece today. I started painting freely, let the piece sit and then pulled out what I saw. Today, what I saw were a trio of familiar figures, the Traveling Muses, who I've painted before (you can see the original painting here.) How funny to have them return!

And here's Annabelle working on painting her fairy wand purple. We planned to decorate more with glitter and ribbons after her nap, but she's taking a super long nap (and anyone who knows Annabelle, knows how rare that is!), so I think we'll finish it up tomorrow.

Art Every Day Month, Day 6

Today is the 6th day of Art Every Day Month. May your day be a beautifully creative one!

I usually post my art at the end of the day, but every morning there will be a check-in post like this one, where you can share your work whenever you're ready to do so.

The box below is a widget that I provide each day as an optional place to share a direct link (blog post or flickr image) to that day's creation. If you don't have something to share today, don't worry about it! Share when you can. In the meantime, be sure to check out what other participants are creating! Check out the links from today's post and the links on the participant page for instant inspiration. You can also see lots of great work in the AEDM flickr group. Feel free to share your work there too!

If you use the widget, please link to a specific blog post, not your main blog page or website (or you can link to a specific image if you're linking to a flickr page.) For example, in a past AEDM, for day one I linked to my first post: http://creativeeveryday.com/creativeeveryday/2010/11/the-owl-and-the-pussycat.html instead of my main blog page: http://www.creativeeveryday.com. This makes it easier for people to find your work. Mr. Linky automatically asks for a comment, leave one if you'd like (I love to hear from you!), but it's not required. It may take a little time for your image and/or link to appear. If you don't see it right away, check back in a few minutes. If you're having trouble with the sharing a thumbnail, try putting the url of your latest post in the url box. Then, when it gives you a few options for sharing an image, choose the "pick an image from your site" option. From there, you should be able to select an image of your latest work or some other image from your site. It may take a minute for your image to appear here on the blog.

If you want to share, but don't have a specific page to link to, feel free to use the comments section of this post to share what you're working on. If you're posting less than once a day, no problem! Simply use the latest one of these posts to share a link to your creation. For some, it's too much to keep up with posting every day, but don't let that get you down. Do it if you can and if you can't, just keep on creating, that's the most important part. If you get off track and miss a few days of creating, don't let that freeze you up either. Just pick up where you left off and keep moving forward. One foot in front of the other. You are making your life a more creative one with each step.

How to participate in Art Every Day Month: Check out the AEDM info page for all the details, instructions on how to get involved, and then visit the participant sign up page before you use the link widget to share your creations. The Information page also has instructions about how to use the widget below, if you're having any trouble with it.

Survival Guide: If you feel like you could use some more support, prompts, and motivation to keep going throughout the month, check out the Art Every Day Month Survival Guide.

Twitter: If you're on Twitter (I'm on there as @leah_art), I'll be using the hashtag #aedm2013 to mark Art Every Day Month tweets. It helps to find others who are tweeting about AEDM!

Instagram: You can use the same #aedm2013 hashtag if you're playing along on Instagram.

Creative Every Day Challenge participants: If you're not doing Art Every Day Month, you can still use any of the daily Art Every Day Month check-in posts to leave your weekly link. Feel free to keep checking in on Mondays or post whenever you have something new to share!

Day 5, Dropping Stars

November 5th, 2013, Comments (11)

Today, I decided to do an intuitive piece. I started with wet watercolor paper and fluid acrylics, painting in bits here and there. Then I let it sit and waited to see what I would see. I saw a beautiful silver/white dress. I started pulling that out and this is what came out: Dropping Stars.

When Annabelle heard her friend Ella was sick she said, "Maybe a make a heart to make Ella feel better?" So I cut out the shape and she made an intense drawing on it. Lots of love there! :)

Today is the 5th day of Art Every Day Month. I'm feeling so energized by the process and hope you are too!

I usually post my art at the end of the day, but every morning there will be a check-in post like this one, where you can share your work whenever you're ready to do so.

***I"m going to add this to the instruction below, but just in case it helps you, I'll put it up here today as well. Some folks have had trouble with sharing a thumbnail image with the Mr. Linky widget. My suggestion is to put the url of your latest post in the url box. Then, when it gives you a few options for sharing an image, choose the "pick an image from your site" option. From there, you should be able to select an image of your latest work or some other image from your site. It may take a minute for your image to appear here on the blog. I hope that helps!

Day 4: Hope

November 4th, 2013, Comments (13)

This was another image that has been in my head for a bit, but I wasn't sure exactly how it was going to come together until I started. Most things I do are this way. I start with an inkling and follow the process where it leads. This image was also inspired by a quote from an unknown author:

When the World says, 'Give up,' Hope says, 'Try it one more time.'

I created this piece with acrylic and ink and watercolor paper.

Annabelle asked to play with a green telescope today (random, I know!) Since we don't have one of those, I suggested we make one! She was SO excited about this idea. Before her nap, we painted a paper towel tube I had in the recycling bin with green paint. I told her it would be dry after her nap and then we could decorate it with stars. First things she said when she woke up was, "My telescope is dry now! Let's put stars on it!" While she was sleeping I found some star stickers in my stash of stuff, like the kind your elementary school teacher might have put on your school work. We put a handful on the telescope to decorate it. The telescope was used to find treasure, look at things around the room, and then it became a tube slide for figurines to fly down. :)

Day 3: Bring Down the Sky

November 3rd, 2013, Comments (15)

Today's piece was one I've had in my head for awhile. I love how AEDM brings work out of me! It's acrylic and ink on watercolor paper and is an expression of this quote:

There are some griefs so loud
They could bring down the sky,
And there are griefs so still
None knows how deep they lie.
— May Sarton

Annabelle asked to paint when she saw me painting, so we painted together. She worked on a page in her farm animals painting book. So sweet!

Today is the 3rd day of Art Every Day Month! I'm already so inspired! I wish I could get around to see everyone's work every day like I used to, but life is very full right now! I have loved what I've seen thus far and I'm so thrilled with this wonderful group of creative souls. Keep sharing and keep cheering each other on!

***I'm going to make a note of this at the end of the check-in posts from now on, but want to mention it up here today where people might be more likely to notice it. To answer some questions I've been asked a lot recently, you don't need to leave a comment after joining the challenge (there isn't a space to do it!) or after every day in the check-in. ( I love reading your comments, so please do if you'd like, it's just not required!) The Mr. Linky widget automatically asks you to leave a comment and I can't edit that out, so feel free to ignore him. Haha. Also, it sometimes takes a little time for a link and/or image to appear, so if you don't see it right away, check back in a few minutes.

Thank you for your comments and emails regarding the Facebook group idea. I really appreciate your input! I do see pros and cons to both sides. At this time, I'm not going to do it because I don't think I could keep up with an extra thing and I like the central hub here, but I may revisit the idea in the future.

Day 2: I love you to the moon and back

November 2nd, 2013, Comments (13)

This one is for my Annabelle on the day of her half birthday (she's 2 and a half today!) I say this to her a lot, so I thought this might be something for her future "big girl" room. It's 8"x*8" on canvas.

Annabelle did her art for the day with lots of big scribbles on a placemat and coaster (and perhaps a bit on the table) while we were at dinner tonight. :-)

Today is the 2nd day of Art Every Day Month! I hope you had a great first day and are excited about the month ahead!

****

***QUESTION FOR ALL***  A few people have asked me about creating a Facebook group for Art Every Day Month. I've resisted the idea because I like having a central place where people can share and find each other's work (plus it's another thing to manage), but I also want to make it easy for everyone to participate. Would you like/use a Facebook group for Art Every Day Month as well as this?

***

I usually post my art at the end of the day, but every morning there will be a check-in post like this one, where you can share your work whenever you're ready to do so.
