Day 13: Girl with the Yellow Hair

November 13th, 2013, Comments (4)

This afternoon I had a headache and the intuitive piece I was working on was just not flowing. Today was a day to stop and let it be, even though I was not satisfied. I cropped out the part I liked best and said, "good enough for today!" And that's ok! Some days are like that.

Annabelle had a great time painting some heart frames. I love the serious face she gets when painting!

Art Every Day Month, Day 13

Today is the 13th day of Art Every Day Month. I hope you're all doing well and having fun! Remember that each day is a chance to start over if you've fallen away from the process. No guilt!

I usually post my art at the end of the day, but every morning there will be a check-in post like this one, where you can share your work whenever you're ready to do so.

The box below is a widget that I provide each day as an optional place to share a direct link (blog post or flickr image) to that day's creation. If you don't have something to share today, don't worry about it! Share when you can. In the meantime, be sure to check out what other participants are creating! Check out the links from today's post and the links on the participant page for instant inspiration. You can also see lots of great work in the AEDM flickr group. Feel free to share your work there too!

If you use the widget, please link to a specific blog post, not your main blog page or website (or you can link to a specific image if you're linking to a flickr page.) For example, in a past AEDM, for day one I linked to my first post: http://creativeeveryday.com/creativeeveryday/2010/11/the-owl-and-the-pussycat.html instead of my main blog page: http://www.creativeeveryday.com. This makes it easier for people to find your work. Mr. Linky automatically asks for a comment, leave one if you'd like (I love to hear from you!), but it's not required. It may take a little time for your image and/or link to appear. If you don't see it right away, check back in a few minutes. If you're having trouble with the sharing a thumbnail, try putting the url of your latest post in the url box. Then, when it gives you a few options for sharing an image, choose the "pick an image from your site" option. From there, you should be able to select an image of your latest work or some other image from your site. It may take a minute for your image to appear here on the blog.

If you want to share, but don't have a specific page to link to, feel free to use the comments section of this post to share what you're working on. If you're posting less than once a day, no problem! Simply use the latest one of these posts to share a link to your creation. For some, it's too much to keep up with posting every day, but don't let that get you down. Do it if you can and if you can't, just keep on creating, that's the most important part. If you get off track and miss a few days of creating, don't let that freeze you up either. Just pick up where you left off and keep moving forward. One foot in front of the other. You are making your life a more creative one with each step.

How to participate in Art Every Day Month: Check out the AEDM info page for all the details, instructions on how to get involved, and then visit the participant sign up page before you use the link widget to share your creations. The Information page also has instructions about how to use the widget below, if you're having any trouble with it.

Survival Guide: If you feel like you could use some more support, prompts, and motivation to keep going throughout the month, check out the Art Every Day Month Survival Guide.

Twitter: If you're on Twitter (I'm on there as @leah_art), I'll be using the hashtag #aedm2013 to mark Art Every Day Month tweets. It helps to find others who are tweeting about AEDM!

Instagram: You can use the same #aedm2013 hashtag if you're playing along on Instagram.

Creative Every Day Challenge participants: If you're not doing Art Every Day Month, you can still use any of the daily Art Every Day Month check-in posts to leave your weekly link. Feel free to keep checking in on Mondays or post whenever you have something new to share!

Day 12: Tall Shadow

November 12th, 2013, Comments (7)

Today both Annabelle and I played with shadows in art. I painted a monochromatic piece on watercolor paper. I don't want to say too much about it, I'll let it speak for itself!

Annabelle has been noticing shadows a lot lately, so i thought it would be fun to play with shadows in art today with her. We made shapes with our bodies on a big piece of paper, then traced them, and then colored in and around the shapes. After we did some body tracing on the other side of the paper, which she got a big kick out of.

Today is the 12th day of Art Every Day Month. Do you ever wish you had about 10 more hours in the day? That's how I feel right now. haha. But I'm also loving the energy and regular creating. It's been a great AEDM so far! I'm glad so many of you got a kick out of Annabelle turning me into a pumpkin with her fairy wand the other day! :)

I usually post my art at the end of the day, but every morning there will be a check-in post like this one, where you can share your work whenever you're ready to do so.

Day 11, Rainy Day Thoughts

November 11th, 2013, Comments (5)

Today's painting was a burst of inspiration, based on a sketch in my sketchbook. I put it together with acrylic paint and ink on a 5"x5" panel. Rainy days make me contemplative!

Annabelle is still recovering, but she was better today. She loved playing with her magic ink pens!

Day 10, Subway Stories: Eliot

November 10th, 2013, Comments (6)

Today, I finished this painting, Subway Stories: Eliot. I had done the collage background previously, but it had been in a pile of "to finish someday" for a long time. I'm so glad I finished it up! It's the lastest in a series of Subway Stories pieces I've done. You can see more here. The background is collaged with subway maps, train schedules and phone book numbers. Within the figures, I've written what each person is thinking about. The series was inspired by riding the subway (called the T here in Boston) and wondering about the stories of all the people riding with me and in the trains that passed me.

Annabelle is sick today, she's caught my cold, so no pictures of her today, but she did manage to paint in her little book for a bit while I worked on my art.

Day 9, Night Bird

November 9th, 2013, Comments (7)

Today, I did some experimenting with texture and layering. I like the way the blue pops on the black, some of the skirt, some of the texture in the sky. I feel like I could do more futzing around with this one, I'm not satisfied with it, but I also felt the need to step away, so for now it's done. I may or may not come back to it.

Annabelle and I finished up her fairy wand today. She loved adding glitter glue to make it sparkle. I added some ribbon and tulle for a bit of extra fun. She turned me into a pumpkin. :)

Day 8: Shining a Light

November 8th, 2013, Comments (13)

Another piece of intuitive art today. Started with paint, let it dry and came back to see this leaning figure and light. Another symbol that I repeat a lot, the lantern, came up again. I kind of like the mystery, not knowing what will come up as I work.

Annabelle was in fine form today after visiting her dad at his office. She gave everyone in the office an earful and didn't want to leave. Little extrovert! I loved how excited she was to draw when we got home though. She suggested using the ipad app (Drawing Pad, which is fantastic btw.) You can see her concentrating above and showing off her "colorful rainbow" below.
